I wanted to do create a bootable usb and was using DISKPART for that purpose. I don't know what I was thinking, I chose the wrong drive (the one containing all my life's worth of data :(( ) and performed the following operations:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 1
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE

I woke up just before format and didn't proceed. Now I have tried TestDisk Utility, Recuva but they haven't been any use. I used photorec_win and it is creating dumps of several thousand files of few files which I do not have the courage to join and rename.

OR maybe I don't know the correct instructions to follow. I also assigned a letter to the drive from Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management, but to no avail. It wants me to format the drive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and may pandas, koalas and other round and furry cutesy things come and hug you all day.

Did the partition proceed? I am having the same problem, but windows 8 created a new partition automatically.
