Search found nothing on this issue which has been an irritant since the first sysgen of Win 7.

Recycle Bin/Properties

- Set: "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." in the first set of customizations done to Win 7.
- Ticked: Display delete confirmation dialog

Despite this, files wind up in the Recycle Bin. Sometimes there will be a 'rash' of them over several partitions with from one to over 20 files. Other times, a handful will turn up in one partition.

There has never been a preceding "Please confirm dialog"

Does anyone know under what circumstances Win 7 sends files to the Recycle Bin despite Properties being set to "Don't"?

When you right-click the Recycle Bin => Properties, there are three options available . . .

[1] Custom size:
[2] Don't move files to the Rectcle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.
[3] Display delete confirmation dialog.

Have you tried setting [1] to 0, [2] ticking the box, and [3] unchecking the box [3]?

Is this what you are after?

I appreciate the suggested workaround, but it is not what I am after.

What I am after is an answer to:

Does anyone know under what circumstances Win 7 sends files to the

Recycle Bin despite Properties being set to "Don't"?

Just thinking aloud ;)

Although it is normal, (and Best), practice to use the prebuilt routines in Windows to handle the use of the recycle Bin, it is possible that a specific application is directly moving files into the Recycle bin's special folders - not good practice but I have seen this type of thing in some utilities, often older ones that are given a refresh to work with a later OS .

As you are seeing Batches of files It could be some form of cleanup utility maybe in a background management application

"Does anyone know under what circumstances Win 7 sends files to the Recycle Bin despite Properties being set to "Don't"?" Revo Uninstaller is one of many, if it is told to do so in its settings. I suspect Recycle Bin rules are much more obeyed by Windows Prime than by many 3rd parties.

Being realistic, a lot of developers concentrate on the coding to do the job they're trying to do . If you're in a position where you need to test several flag conditions before you delete an object, or you can just default to the safe option of moving to recycle bin, which is the default for the majority of users I know what I would choose.

I've seen a lot of windows applications that flaunt the agreed programming conventions, over many years, what is surprising is how many of them had the Microsoft logo on the box ;)
