Actually using Aero has less issues with hanging then Aero Basic. I suggest you use it. Aero Basic and Classic both run directly on the CPU and System RAM. However, Aero runs on the GPU and and Video RAM (On the graphics' card).
Why anyone would want to use the sickly blue aero basic is beyond me.
