[Regedit] Font management for Win7 limited user

To allow a limited account user to manage fonts in XP, all I needed was to give the user full permission to the following keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Type 1 Installer\Type 1 Fonts
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Fonts

I was not able to do the same with Win7. First the "Type 1 fonts" key is gone (or moved), second my font software Maintype refuses to launch until an admin password is given (same for direct drag and drop in the fonts folder). Any suggestions on which keys should be permitted for writing to the fonts folder?

Have you tried simply giving the fonts folder "local user" permissions of "modify" instead of read?

edit: I haven't tried this, so I'm unsure of the outcome.

you may need to release the inheritance from it's 'parent' directory "windows"

Are you logged in as the Adminstrator? If you are working out of a standard user account, it is likely that you do not have permission to use the software you are trying to use. If you log in as administrator you can change your user account control settings and grant yourself permission.

Thank you for your insights, Brady and Cassie!! Admin accounts can modify fonts, but for security reasons my limited users do not have access to the admin account. I gave full control (not just read) to the keys/fonts folders/program folders I could think of. Not sure about "inheriting" from Windows though. Would that make the whole system folder vulnerable to security threats? Thank you again for all the help!!

If you were to give local\users full control to the root, yes. but if it's simply on the "fonts" folder, no.

The fonts folder is c:\windows\fonts... not sure what the "keys" and "program folders" are though.

Problem solved by disabling UAC in control panel. Didn't test the type 1 fonts but I can live without them. I granted permission to many fonts registries in regedit, not sure if it played a role BUT it does not matter now. Thank you again Brady!
