Hi
There is a great video/tutorial on YouTube by Britec which shows the many workarounds necessary to schedule backups with ERUNT and Win 7 x64.
I am only an average user and thoroughly did my homework before using ERUNT.
One needs to work with a scheduler, tic a few boxes like running with highest priveleges etc.
You may be right but my research shows more needs to be done than running as administartor.
Perhaps right clicking to run as admin may allow a one time backup I do not know but to schedule backups requires more I think.
I am going to see if I can find that video. http://youtu.be/h26tfWJSvPg
I hope that works.

Just a FYI, but when you create a restore point in Windows, it includes a backup of your registry. This allows you to be able to do a system restore to use that restore point to also restore the registry as it was at the time and date the restore point was created.

restore point

Thank you for that.
At times, restore points depend upon each other to work so can be unreliable. This new program I am reading about is not dependent upon Windows per se and is a safer backup.
If this forum allows it and if you are interested I can direct you to it.
It is the new ERUNT picking up where XP left off.

Restore points do not depend on each other in Windows 7.

Personally, I prefer to create and image of my operating system for backup.
I like Acronis True Image for this.

As I understand it, it is possible for system restore not to function because of the relationship among the restore points.
I too use Acronis and it has never failed me.

Hello Seven,

Nope. Restore points are not incremental and are independent from each other and do not rely on any other one. In fact, you can easily delete specific restore points at will without affecting other restore points.

The main thing you have to worry about restore points is how much maximum disk space usage is set for them. As space runs out, older restore points are deleted automatically to make room for a new restore point being created.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

system restore

You are the expert and I am the learner and I defer to your expertise.
Thank you for both the correction and the additonal information.
Have you heard of the new beta registry backup for Win 7 similiar to what ERUNT was for pc up until XP?
I do not know what I am allowed to write in the forum so if interested please tell me what to write.
It is at another site and i have been in touch with the owner who is beta testing it now. Some of my techy friends across the pond are quite impressed as are some techs in a few other forums..

I do not think system restore is always reliable. I do have Acronis which takes a while.
I read a lot about ERUNT and most of my young techy friends have it in their toolbox. They tell me how it functions outside of windows, backups when you bootup for a set # of times etc.
I was so interested I began chatting with some forum mods. Finally I found one who is developing a program like ERUNT but where it left off with XP.
Britec has a great video/tutorial abour ERUNT and the work arounds for Win 7 x64. It is not as ez as running as admin and I don't want to turn off the UAC.
When this owner of a site I like{I do not want to violoate rules so am reluctant to mention sites or names unless told I can do so] completes his beta version and makes his video/tutorial, I will study it and see if I want to try it.
All of my friends across the pond who are very techy are interested in it and are providing both good and correctional comments to him. it won't be long before it is released.
Soooooooooo, to answer your question, I am elderly/ill and never had lessons. I picked up a pc only a few years ago but am doing ok. I used to be outdoors and active but now the pc and tv are my friends. I learned what I know in forums. I like to try things but don't like to format and reinstall.
I have always had an aptitude for puttering so even after 7 decades I like to dabble.
This type of program may allow me to correct errors I make without too much damage.
Have a good one and wheever said old timers are long winded!
Peter

I, personally, have never heard of Erunt.I don't need it since my system automatically makes system images and system restore points. Plus, I don't install and uninstall a bunch of programs.

I agree with using the OS itself, backing up registry main keys is so simple, fire up regedit, right click for example HKEY_CURRENT_USER choose export and browse to a safe location, voila times about 5 and you backed it up.
To restore any key right click and merge.

Why write code to do what a few clicks can safely and quickly accomplish ?

More likely fans of ERUNT use ERUNT.
A system image is just plain better than a registry backup.
