Registry cleaner

I add and remove programs frequently and think I would like to use a registry cleaner to clean out the pieces. Are any safe to use? Thanks.

The only cleaner besides Disk Cleanup I would use is CCleaner which has proven itself over 15 years and is perhaps the single most respected app in the tech world - used by programmers and Grandma alike.

I've installed it on hundreds of computers representing thousands of regular uses without a single complaint for either its Disk or Registry cleaner, nor have we been presented here yet with a single verifiable case of it causing problems.

Most all other "Registry Cleaners" are advertising sales scams without any of the genius that is packed into CCleaner. They will ruin your Win7.

There are other tips here to Clean up factory bloatware while monitoring that this is not damaging System Files.

Registry Cleaners are not advised for Win 7, but if you insist, CCleaner is usually the one that is least destructive.

It will be up to you to pay attention to what you are deleting.

In the future you might want to use this to uninstall programs Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems , get the free download.

I agree with the other posters. I've used ccleaner before and its very effective. If you are clearing the registry remember to take a backup first (With ccleaner you get an option to export the selected regisrty keys first). The simplist change can be very damaging if done incorrectly.

Current accepted wisdom with Win 7 is you do NOT need to use a cleaner.

If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized it shouldn't.

In other words, injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" CAN & DOES cause problems.

Should you decide to go ahead -
it is recommended you have
1.a current System Restore point created.
2.a recent "Back up" of your computer.

If you want to use a good Registry Cleaner that is reliable, almost infallible and reasonably fast then please try jv16 PowerTools 2011. It is absolutely nonpareil.

Use best registry cleaner like C Cleaner or Registry optimizer etc which is goof for making PC new like new one.

mcafee launched a registry cleaner just recently. if registry cleaners are reputabel like ccleaner, reginout, etc they can be used. they do not harm. i have used many and found them ok.

In the wrong hands they can harm the PC. The Registry is very delicate. If you dont have a backup first then it can cause problems.

In the past some cleaners have removed the application keys for opening .exe files...

Always do a backup first.

The best suggestion I've heard of so far in this thread is Bumpkin's

If you use Revo you shouldn't have the need for a Reg cleaner.

There are a few problems with Revo.

1. The free edition only handles 32bit programs even on 64bit windows.
2. If you use the default Moderate Mode Scan it sometimes leaves leftovers.
3. If you use the Advanced mode it will often suggest things that should not be removed.

But whatever you do you must look very carefully at any registry changes it suggests.

The absolute worst crapware seen here causing problems almost every week is MucAfee. I would not use anything they make. .

You have just read every expert say not to use any Registry Cleaner except CCleaner which is possibly the most reputable app in the entire tech world.

The only attempts I have ever made cleaning a registry is with ccleaner, only because it doesn't dig deep and mostly cleans up things from uninstalls. There really isn't a need for cleaning the registry anyway in Win 7. Best to steer clear of them, no matter how good they say their product is.
