hi, Guys,

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\disallowrun]
"3"="HelpCtr.exe"

You need an extra registry entry, which by default is not present. It turns on the disallow feature...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"DisallowRun"="1"

Also, is Helpctr.exe the correct file name? When I run help and support on my windows 7 it starts HelpPane.exe??

Sorry, I am getting lazy with my shorthand.

This is how the reg file should exactly Look..

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"DisallowRun"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun]
"1"="HelpPane.exe"
"2"="Helpctr.exe"
"3"="WinHlp32.exe"

Also, make sure you log out/back in before testing it.

Ok, ,another way you can try this is to go start, run, then type secpol.msc

Go to the "Software restriction policies", right click "Add new software restriction". Then go to "Additional Rules", right click on it and select "New Path Rule". Add the path to the helppane.exe (Eg. C:\Windows\HelpPane.exe).

You should also add WinHlp32.exe as well.

You could also rename the helppane.exe file. This is a protected system file, so I wouldn't recommend this method. It might also throw an error if/when you run sfc.exe.

You're getting into sensitive windows settings now, so I'd make sure you back up your registry before you go much further, or at least create a system restore point.
