Reinstall Windows 7 without CD

Well, lets find out.

set it so the HDD is first. Look at the options at the bottom of your BIOS screen. Usually F5 or F6 will move a device up or down in the list.

Save the changes then exit.

I think its time for a visit to your repair shop..

Hi Tews,

You're probaly right but I would be very happy if I could fix the problem myself with the help of members of Sevenforums so I can learn about it instead of bring it to the repair shop without knowing exactly what they're doing with it.

Done.

At the Advanced Section / IDE Configuration there's: >SATA 1 : [Hitachi HTS545025B]

(I don't know if it was there before I switched SATA to 1st Boot Device because I didn't look here before)

I've got one more suggestion..

In your BIOS, on the bottom of the screen with the option menu. Can you restore everything to default. In my BIOS I think it's F10. So just double check yours and set everything to default.

Maybe your brother changed something in the BIOS, I don't know. If this doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

Has there been any attempt to run the Recovery Partition?

Look on the first boot screen for the key(s) to press to start Recovery.

If it isn't there, then read the Manual at the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model to find out how to run Recovery.

Or call Tech support which will walk you through it for free if you are within a year of purchase.

To answer the question posed by your post title: most tech enthusiasts locate a copy of the Win7 installer for their version (all versions can be unlocked if needed) to reinstall with the Product Key stickered to the machine. This avoids the factory bloatware on the Recovery partition. The retail and OEM installers have been the same since Vista.

If you can't use a DVD: extract the ISO using ImgBurn, unlock all versions using ei.cfg removal tool, then write to USB flash stick. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html or http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31541-windows-7-usb-dvd-download-tool.html?filter[2]=General%20Tips

Hello there,

I just told the guy what happened and he explained to me that he would format my netbook. It cost me 30 Euros

I'm going to follow this forum some more so I can learn about Win7, bios etc so next time I can do any necessary repairs myself.

I wish he would have gave more details so we all could have learned something about it, too.

Do hang arround and read some of the tutorials. A wealth of knowledge here.

Feel free to ask any question, because nobody learns from an un-asked question. ;)

Is there a Recovery Partition on there which you can run to return to factory condition? Most computers have one.

You can also save externally a Win7 backup image with the built-in imaging utility. Then if Win7 won't start you can try to repair it first with the booted Repair CD and if this fails reimage the HD (or a replacement) in 15 minutes from Repair CD.

The same issue

Hi, I have the same issue with my 1201HA... Please can you help me? I've googled everywhere but nothing relevant found...
Is there any way to include ACPI drivers downloadable from Asus support site right to the windows installation?

Or is there any way to run recovery process from Support DVD from USB stick? I've tried so, but it cannot locate CD/DVD during installation in Asus support application booted from that USB. But I don't know how to tell application to load data from that USB...
