"LAN" drivers is typically another way of saying Ethernet drivers.

Where are you looking? Any old LAN driver isn't likely to work.

I came across that as someone posted a recent update for links for various Advent downloads, for various models as they were having trouble obtaining drivers while fixing a laptop.

You are kind of on your own with Advent. I've never heard of them.

If in doubt, download various LAN drivers, sound drivers, etc. It can't hurt and might help.

Good chance the Windows disk will have the majority of what you need, but the Ethernet (LAN) driver can be hit and miss and without it you are dead meat.

After you install, if all of your stuff functions as advertised, DON'T use any of the downloaded drivers--they are emergency fallbacks only.

Yes I've noticed not working for me either-though I'm still browsing it. Odd.

Advent make fairly decent laptops. Not particularly powerful (well the one I have right now) but decent budget ones. Does the basics well enough.

Hopefully the disk will have what I need to get set up easily enough internet wise. But I'll do a backup just to be absolutely safe. Like you said if so I won't install.

Without what you told me I would have been pretty much stuck big time. Greatly appreciate the help

Please read carefully the steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are based on our helping here with countless thousands of reinstalls making us the top source on the web for this specialty.

As the tutorial says put your network adapter on stick or CD to install in case Win7 installer doesn't have it, then immediately install all Important and Optional Updates which will have other newer and missing drivers. Then any drivers missing in Device Manager can be imported from the Support Downloads webpage for your PC or device model.

You can also trace any device missing its driver which does not divulge its make and model in Device Manager using Hardware Identification. If you need our help just ask because we've never not been able to find one.

I intent to study it to the letter. Already preparing a DVD for the drivers as we speak as I only have one drive-want to be totally prepared.

I only registered a few hours ago-and it's so much easier to understand for a novice like myself than surfing the internet. I just read too much into and got totally lost

Okay, it's been a few days but got the hard drive today, and happy to report everything went very smoothly. Windows 7 HP installed without a problem, up and running.
