Remote access of IP camera not working.

Hello,

I have been trying to set up an IP camera for remote access but not having any luck.

I have set port forwarding in my Belkin router and an open port check verifys that the port (8091) is open.

The camera can be accessed on the local network by typing in 198.168.2.15:8091 OK.

However, trying to access it using myIPaddress:8091 fails.

This is most likely a firewall issue from the belkin router. Accessing it via the local network should not have any firewalls in the path therefore your connection was allowed. When you opened the port on your router did you ensure that it was redirected to the IP address of your IP camera (192.168.2.15)? What protocol did you use? TCP or UDP or Both? What are the outbound rules to the internet? Is it allow all? Does the IP camera have a default gateway configured so that it can redirect the return traffic to your router?

My apologies for the many questions as I am trying to determine the root cause.

In the router Virtual Server settings the Inbound and Private Ports are set to 8090. The type is set to TCP/UDP, and the Private IP address is set to 192.168.2.15

I don't know where to check the outbound rules.

The IP camera is set to obtain IP from DHCP server, ie, not a static IP. The reason I bought a Belkin is its ability to "Reserve" the IP address obtained this way so it never changes.

I don't know about the IP camera default gateway. There is a setting for this if using a static IP, but none when the IP is obtained from DHCP server.

As a temporary measure only for testing, can you try and place the IP address of your camera into the DMZ zone of the router. This will essentially make that device exempt from any firewall on the router. If connectivity works then we know this is where the issue lies. If connectivity still doesn't work then we may be looking at a different source for this issue.

If you need direct steps please tell me the make/model of your router and I'll do the best I can

After completing your testing please remove the device from the DMZ zone since it is leaving it open to the internet.
