I'm able to bring up a tunnel through a router (RV042) made by Linksys, but now I can't get the remote desktop connection to work. All computers are using Windows 7 Professional. On the host computer, Windows 7 is set up to allow RDC, and the firewall is set to allow a RDC. Likewise, the client firewall allows RDC. Still, no configuration works. The diagnostics say that the client computer is configured correctly, but that the host computer is not responding. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

So did anyone get the RV042 to work with Win 7 properly? I am considering using it for VPN access to my home office but must have Remote Desktop Connection. Can someone tell me that they have got this to work flawlessly?
Thanks

Thanks, good link but I haven't hooked it up yet. Just want to know it will actually work flawlessly before I change over from my Firebox to the RV042. Can you explain the 'open ports' more???

Yes. I was able to get it to work, and it has worked fine for my network, which involves six computers in the office and four employees working from home. Since getting it up and running, I've needed to reboot the router only once, and I don't know whether it was really a router problem at the time. I had to uninstall Shrew Soft, but I don't think the software was the problem. Given the size of my network, I was able to use the router PPTP settings, which are available for up to five RDC without needing to open a dedicated port. Good luck.

Great, this gives me hope. Did you have to do any opening of ports as stated in the previous threads? IF so, can you tell me what you did?
Thanks

You should probably rely on the big dogs for an understanding of the ports, but basically, your computer is set to listen for incoming data, and your firewall is set to allow incoming date, through particular "ports," like holes in the Hoover Dam. But you shouldn't need to open any ports to set up RDC through most routers, unless you have a very large network.
