Remote desktop Windows 7 PC to Windows 8.1 PC

Hello All,

I am quite aware of how the remote desktop works.

I am able to connect from a window-7(office pc) machine to a windows8.1 machine (home pc) while i am on the home network. I also verified that I can connect to my home pc from a external network using my cell phone data connection (hotspot).

The problem is that when i try to connect to the home pc from my office wifi network, I am not able to. It gives an error when trying to connect "An internal error has occured".

Is is possible my company is blocking the port or the protocol? what are the alternate options?

Hmm, default RDP port is TCP/IP 3389.

Try Outgoing Port Tester (if it doesn't test, just remove the :3389 at the end, or you have a different port assigned change accordingly).

Maybe you can RDP over VPN if port is closed.

There is also Firebind Reflector Demo1 can scan UDP as well

I am really puzzled that I am not able to ping my modem (ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6141), but I can do a remote connection from an outside network (like my phone's hotspot).

If I can ping, I can try VPN.

You may have Internet ping response disabled on modem. Usually a security feature. You probably opened port/s for RDP?

Okay. I can ping the machine now.

Looks like the the company is blocking the port used by remote desktop or the protocol.

What are other software alternates? how do i setup vpn?
