Solved Remote Shutdown | Well-known "Acces is denied (5)"

Hi sevenforums !

So here is my question. I'm on my network at home, and i've 2 computers, running windows 7 ultimate x64, on same workgroup. I'm on an account with admin rights (i'm not on admin account, but that's the same, it doesn't work) and i'm trying to remotely shutdown pc1 from pc2.

I don't want to use any software, just the windows command prompt. But i've always this fu*** message : access is denied (5).

Here's what i tried :
- Go on admin accounts
- Allow "remote use" from control panel
- Go on same workgroup
- Change local policies for "everyone" in "Remote shutdown"
- Edit registry key (forceguest)

And I don't want to turn off my uac.

It's annoying, i'm trying to do this since one year i think ! Any idea ?

Try this in a BAT file.

shutdown -m \\YourPCNameHere -r -t 5 -f

Works for me on both XP and Win 7 to shutdown LAN PCs.

Do you have to do this every time you want to remote shutdown?

Yes, but then you'll just have to open the batch file to use it.

Sorry don't know what you mean by "Do you have to do that every time you want to remote shut down".

I save a text file with that command as a .bat file and place it on my desktop, named for the computer I want to remote shut down or restart (slightly different command) and when I want to shut down that computer I double click on that bat file. Computer goes through the shut down process and turns off.

I have made no other adjustments to those computers.
The OPs problem may come from the computers not having a User account with the same username and password as the one he is sending the shutdown command from. So without the right username and password he is denied access to that remote computer.
All my computers, PC or Mac, have a User with the same username and password.

Ok, i found my problem. If french people are here, there are many problems with livebox from orange. I moved for freebox, and it's ok now !
