Solved remove one side of a dual boot hard drive

Hi
I downloaded W8 over W7 and am very unhappy with it. I then partitioned my
drive and loaded vista on the second partition. I tried using microsoft directions
for reformatting the W8 side. When I tried to format it I got the message
"Windows was unable to complete the format" I am trying to clean this partition
so I can reload my Vista and W 7 upgrade again. Any ideas?

Post a screenshot of Disk Management so we can see what is going on with your existing partitions. I'm unclear on whether you have 1, 2, or 3 operating systems.

I tried posting the screen shot by dragging it to the Replay but it appears it came up blank. I will try again.

I recently partitioned my hard drive to load W8, a very bad mistake. I then
partitioned my disk so I could reload W7. Now I would like to remove W8 and then
the partition. I am reading threads that I can't remove W8. I tried reformatting the
W8 side but it would not complete. Any suggestions?

When you install another OS in a Multi-Boot it places its boot files on the first installed OS, so you should be good to delete WIn8 partition in Disk Management. It won't let you delete it if it holds the System boot files.

But if you want you can post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map with listings, using the Snipping TOol in Start Menu and we will look it over for you to be sure.

Problem solved. I downloaded some partitoning software and was able to clean and move the partition to
maximize my main operating system.Thanks for all you help.

I was waiting for the Disk Management screen shot requested to advise you better. You most likely could have used Disk Mgmt to delete the unwanted OS and extend the one you're keeping.
