Hi, newbie here.

I just reinstalled Win-7 from Lenovo Recovery Disks (5 DVDs) on my Thinkpad t440p.
It took almost a whole day. Also installed Firefox and MSE. Had to reboot many, many times, for Windows Updates.
I installed every Updates that Windows offered (both Important and Optional).
Now, Windows says my machine is all up-to-date. That is great. It runs great. But it seems to use alot of RAM...like over 2 Gig.

So now I read that uninstalling telemetry updates will free up resources.
I found a post from Jan 2021, that has a script to remove the telemetry updates. In the script, there are ten lines (to uninstall ten KB's).

is it really just that simple to de-telemetry? just remove ten KB's?

or is there more to it than that?

ps. In other forums and youtube, I found lists of KB to uninstall. These lists are usually very large. But these lists are all atleast a few years old.

Yeah, there's more than one listed at Github. You'll need to copy the text, paste in a text document and name it something_or_other.bat. The .bat is a batch file. Double click and it should remove the buggers. Remove telemetry updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 . GitHub

I'd first create a system restore point and/or a clone of the computer before uninstalling the updates. Wouldn't hurt.

To verify the results you'd literary need to create a baseline of network activity prior to uninstalling the updates. And then compare to the running OS without those updates. Just keep in mind many, if not 99% of all programs you install also use telemetry. It can all be controlled, but you need to know how. If you're willing to read and learn, use pfSense. I probably mention that hardware based firewall every day. LOL

Here you go. From the Github link. View attachment Uninstall telemetry updates.bat

I don't use but four updates for hardware and software needs. I find them to be full of crap. Never been hacked or gotten malware. I roll in a very different way. Lets just put it that way. LOL

Ah, "just reinstalled" In that case - reinstall again, but this time craft the ISO with NTLite. Just a thought...

Looks like NTLite is a tool for making ISO installation file.

I don't use ISO file.
I installed Windows-7 with my Lenovo Recovery DVD Disk Set (actual DVD's).

You can use LTLite to customize and add updates to the ISO for deployment.

To take your optical media (DVD) and turn that into an ISO file requires software like portable imgburn. There is other software as well that'll take an OS installation DVD and turn that into an ISO file. The pronunciation of the acronym ISO is (Eye-So). International Organization for Standardization - Wikipedia (There's also DIN. Deutsches Institut fur Normung - Wikipedia) (And RFC Request for Comments - Wikipedia) Sorry.. LOL

Once you customize the ISO file using NTLite, you can use many different USB tools to burn the ISO file to a USB drive thumb drive and boot the USB drive like you would the DVD.

Many use Rufus. There's WinToUSB and Balena Etcher. Or you can use portable imgburn and burn the modified ISO file to a blank DVD disk.
