Hi guys

Can someone teach me how to remove linux OS on my laptop. I don't have any partition and recovery..
I tried to install windows 7 (3 times different disc) but this notification keep on showing

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step".

I read an article on Microsoft office on "How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer"

1.Remove native, swap, and boot partitions used by Linux:
-Start your computer with the Linux setup floppy disk, type fdisk at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: For help using the Fdisk tool, type m at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

-type p at the command prompt, and then press ENTER to display partition information. The first item listed is hard disk 1, partition 1 information, and the second item listed is hard disk 1, partition 2 information.

-Type d at the command prompt, and then press ENTER. You are then prompted for the partition number you want to delete. Type 1, and then press ENTER to delete partition number 1. Repeat this step until all the partitions have been deleted.

..............

But how to open the command prompt? Please elaborate to me..

I hope someone can help me in this matter. i miss playing dota 2

New MB has only USB 3.0 ports. If you don't have mouse when you launch win 7 installation confirms that you need USB 3.0 drivers. You also have to load the SATA drivers. Please confirm.
I can guide you though your Win 7 installation once you give us your laptop specs.

Thrash, he doesn't need any Linux drive to clean the HDD with Linux installed. He just have to clean all partitions till all disk is raw (unalocated) then create a new partition (in fact 3) and then install Win 7.

The bootable Lucid Puppy does have in Menu > System. Gparted Partition Manager. I just ran the bootable Lucid puppy to check this, I found it cannot erase (wipe) the disk. One can only delete, resize, format etc,

I also found there is a Pdisk Partition Manager which can run fdisk. It says " this includes creating and erasing partitions" I believe that erasing partitions really means deleting partitions and not wiping the disk clean

I have just presented the info.

@ThrashZone, why not the bootable Partition Wizard as you said? The OP can wipe the disk clean and then initialise, create volumes and format it with one program.

Just my thoughts. ( I am no expert in these things like wiping Linux and installing Windows. And yes I had used fdisk in Windows 95 days to create and format but not wiping. I didn't even know what is that wiping then :D )

Have I exposed my ignorance? Ignorance is bliss. :)

Just download the Partition Wizard Bootable CD Free Edition version ISO either 32bit or 64bit (as per the Op's Windows 7 bit version he wants to install ). https://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

Create a bootable pendrive with that ISO using Rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie/ as in my post here http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware...ly-unrecognisable-hard-drive.html#post2936753 ( Instead of Lucid Puppy ISO it will be Partition Wizard Free Edition ISO). During the creation process Rufus will format the pendrive. So all data in it should be backed up before running Rufus. During the creation process Rufus may say it needs to download the new Vesa menu. Say yes and it will download and use the new vesa menu. Boot from the pendrive to run Partition Wizard. The bootable PW actually runs on Linux.

( I really do not know whether it can wipe out Linux Grub and all. The OP can try. If it does not work he has to look out for other means /other heads :). )

Do any/all of these methods and tools delete the hidden sector boot data for MBR ?
When i "reuse" a drive, I've always used Diskpart Clean to remove the old bootmgr info, and everything else.
This has never caused a problem for me, when reusing the drive for whatever i want.

Sorry if this is a dumb question :o, but i'm curiuos.
Back to lurking :p

And to clean the drive I used the win installation disk. Install-advanced-delete all partitions and done. Never needed or used a Linux disk to clean a Linux installation.
There is also Diskpart /clean. But Diskpart isn't for newbies.
Am I missing something?

This should work:

Note that the "clean" command in Diskpart cleans the entire disk, not just a particular partition.

Disconnect all hard drives other than the drive that will receive Windows.

Disconnect any external devices. All you need are monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Boot from the Windows 7 installation disc.

Hit Shift F10 at the first screen where you are asked to choose a language.

A command prompt will appear. Type diskpart at that prompt.

Type in the following commands one by one, followed by the Enter key to create a partition (text in parentheses are comments only):

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

clean (this wipes the drive of anything on it; not needed on a brand new drive)

create partition primary

select partition 1 (this selects the partition you just made)

active (this marks that partition active)

format fs=ntfs quick (this formats that partition)

exit (this quits the diskpart program)

exit (this closes the command prompt window)

Continue Windows 7 installation as usual. Remember to highlight and select the partition just created when you come to the partition screen asking you "where do you want to install Windows?”.

You are jumping important steps, like BIOS configuration, to install win 7 on your laptop.
I can guide you though your Win 7 installation once I read your laptop specs.
If you don't have mouse when you launch win 7 installation confirms that you need USB 3.0 drivers. You also have to load the SATA drivers. Please confirm.

Just to clean your disk (it won't install as you said that a driver is needed)
Boot with your Win 7 64 bits installation disk.
Go to Install-advanced-delete all partitions-New
It will delete all partitions and when it create new it will also create a MS reserved partition.

Megahertz is 100% correct. I just did a fresh install of W7 on an Acer Aspire that had Linux Mint previously installed. Used a USB thumb drive, went smooth & fast. Just delete the partitions that the install program finds, then click "new". No need to wipe Linux prior to installing W7.

Luminous, I've read ed your laptop manual. As it's a old Laptop (2011) you shouldn't have problems installing Win 7 64 on it.
What it's strange is that you said it was asking for a driver. A driver should only be needed if you have Win XP installation disk. Please confirm that your Windows installation disk is Win 7 64bits and not a Win XP.

If you are using a USB flash disk you should attach it on the left side, near the audio jack.
The USB on the right side can be USB 3.0 on selected model.

windows 7 install media is fully capable of cleaning and repartitioning a hdd. there is no need to use any linux or 3rd party partitioner. Installing windows 7 will automaticaly overwrite the mbr and remove grub.
