I would like to remove the microsoft security essential (MSE) icon form the stem tray. (green icon in picture)

I do not want to use the customize> hide feature. I want to have my computer set at always show all icons and notifications in task bar.

I also do not want to un-check the Microsoft Security Client in msconfig> startup tab. I tired doing this before and was told that when it is unchecked the program is running but doesn't show in the system tray but i found this to be incorrect.

Is there any way to remove this icon and still have the program running in the back ground?

I'm also not interested in using a thirdparty software.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I really don't believe that's possible unless you uninstall it or some how get into windows code. I was going to suggest the hide feature but you say you don't want to do that. So I wouldn't know to be honest at least of what i'm aware of.

Try this.

Start and type in Notification.
Selection Notification Area Icon

Under MSE select Hide Icon and Notification.

I would reboot and verify if the setting stayed.

If it is in the startups, it's in the tray. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Layback bear: thanks for your contribution but i already stated "I want to have my computer set at always show all icons and notifications in task bar."

whs: I have been searching all over the internet and that is what seems to be the accepted "solution" Just trying to see if there might be something else someone here has tried.

From your post # 5

I want to have my computer set at always show all icons and notifications in task bar.

I can have MSE icon on the system tray or the Task bar or both if I so desire. I can also remove the MSE Icon from both if I so desire.

Just exactly where do you want or not want the MSE Icon to be or not to be.

I apologize if i wasn't being clear.

Visual aids always help. I want to have my computer set at always show all icons and notifications in task bar. (picture 1)

I don't want to to hide it and still have the little white arrow (picture 2)

I guess what i would like, is if i can do it through the registry or any other way and have the program running but not the icon showing.

So if I understand you correctly you don't want the little white triangle.

Is that correct??

Yes, i want it removed but running and not have the white triangle.

I believe that if it's removed but hiding inside the submenu produced by clicking on the white arrow......that is not completely removing the icon from the system try. That's just hiding it.

But you may have a better command of the english language so you may interpret it differently.

I really don't know how to remove the little triangle in any language.
