Removing the annoying dial-up prompt.

G'day guys,

Just wondering if it is possible to remove the annoying dial-up prompt when you're not connected to the internet. For example, I'll randomly be using my computer or playing a game and sometimes the dial-up connection window will pop up, even if I'm not trying to access the internet (unless my anti-virus is trying to update or what not). It is very annoying and I would like to remove instead of deleting the connection everytime I'm not using my dial-up connection (since I usually have internet access through a shared connection through LAN).

Thanks,
Hungrytoheal

I haven't had dialup for a while. But searching the memory banks, if you have any program set to automatic update, that program will trigger the prompt when it tries to update. It could be your anitvirus, Adobe updater or any number of programs set to automatic update. The solution is to set everything to manual update.

I'll need an alternate solution as that won't work well for me.

If you are using IE as your browser, go to Control Panel > Internet Options > click on the Connections tab and select Never dial a connection.

Can't you tell IE just to use the Network in options and when you want to switch back just select dial-up.
I'm not saying this will work the way you want as you might get a message from other programmes saying, can't connect to the internet.

I'm using firefox as my default internet browser, will the IE solution still likely work?

Give it a try. It worked for me way back when and I was also using Firefox.
