The ability to rename multiple files at once (by selecting all, right clicking them and click rename,) has disappeared from my context menu. I use it often to rename large batches of jpegs. How do I get it back?
Thanks.

Err.. cant remember
Is this just me is is it another of MS improvements... does anyone else still have 'rename' in the context menu if they select multiple files of the same type?

just select multiple files - then right click the mouse on the rename and whatever you Change in the file which opens the base Name fileld will apply to all files selected. I have not found out how to rename the Extension....

It appears to be you. I just checked mine and rename is still both there and works for renaming multiple files at one.

Vortechs, what is if you select the file and then press <F2> instead of a right mouse click?

The Mass rename Wizard still works (F2) but I find it so confusing, there's too many options, I can never seem to get it to do what I want. I just want the simple version back on the context menu. Restore points are no use as it's been like it for quite some time now. I think there's a 3rd party program that lets you edit what's on the context menu, maybe I'll give that a go and see if I can get it back that way.

Err.. cant remember
click twice on file name (a very slow double click)

easiest and straight forward way for one file is just clicking on the file once and then again after a second (no double click). this should select the file name and you can change it.

That works for renaming individual files, not multiple files. We are discussing simultaneously renaming multiple files here.

Thanks Lady.

I figured it out, a while ago I installed Xplorer2 to see what it was like (it's an alternative Windows Explorer program), it was still on the computer but I haven't been using it, as soon as I uninstalled it 'Rename' reappeared on the context menu when selecting multiple files.
