with the seatools I keep failing each test (except for the SMART test.) for Western Digital I don't know what to download.

Vespa, if you have a toshiba drive, why are you looking at seagate and western digital? I'm a little confused (my normal state).

Did you try running the toshiba diagnostic? Is that what failed?

The Toshiba website allows you to download the Fujitsu tools, which, Vespa, you told me won't work.

Well I decided I might as well backup all my important stuff and reinstall everything from the ground up. That should fix things right?

Not a bad option. For my own computers, the solution to any error that looks like it might take more than an hour to fix is a clean install of windows.

so how would I go about to make a clean install then? I'm just winging my way through this would require a step by step guide. Also, I upgraded from windows vista, does that mean I would have to install vista then upgrade again?

No, you could do a clean install with an upgrade disk. There's even a tutorial on it that explains how better than I can.

If there is no data you care about on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD), as this method will over-write everything on the entire HDD and make it un-recoverable, have alook at this tutorial at the link below.

uh oh, the situation is different then what we've though. I asked my friend to help me with the re installation. I gave a brief explanation and he said I should first make sure the problem is in the hard drive so I did what he suggested and take out the hard drive and try to boot up the disks and see what happens... same thing. So it seems even if I do wipe the hard drive clean I'll still have the same problem. My friend said it might be the byos. So I'm really lost now
