replace counterfeit windows 7

Bought a used pc with win 7 professional. After downloading win 10 (which Ididn't like) then de - installing I now have a message telling me my version of win 7 is counterfeit, consequently I have the black screen with faded desktop icons.
I tried the recovery disc, that made no difference. Should I purchase a re - furb win 7 professional off Amazon or is there another way to get back to normal?
I'm not a computer whizz so any advice in simple language please.

Hi Wilbur,
Is there a sticker on the bottom of the lappy, if so
It should state the original OS, and a code, if its W7 pro then Ztruckers post will be the best way to go.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
