Hi,

Since a few months, I have the infamous build 7601 counterfeit warnings.
I have tried many many of the solutions described here and elsewhere, to no avail.

Some more details:
- For some reason, I do not have a COA sticker, also not under the battery.
- I have done no hardware modifications.
- I don't have the option to activate by phone (only contact Dell).
- I presume I have an OEM version. I have reinstalled it using a Dell DVD earlier, long before I started having these issues.

I hope someone can make sense in the "mgadump" output below?

Thanks!

Joris

There is no SLIC table in the BIOS to support the OEM_SLP Key in use.
This machine was shipped with Windows 8 installed - which is why there's no COA sticker.
There should be a Win8 sticker - does it say Win8 or Win8Pro?

If it says Win8, then there are NO downgrade rights - and the install is counterfeit.

If it says Win8 Pro, then you will have to contact Dell to get them to fix it, as it will require a new BIOS.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

There is no sticker whatsoever.
The machine originally came with Windows 7, in fact I believe it dates from before Windows 8.

The motherboard BIOS date is late 2013
<SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="6"/><Date>20131226000000.000000+000</Date></
... which is why I took it to be Win 8

Having said that, there is no proof whatever that the machine shipped with either Win8 or Win7 preinstalled without a COA sticker or a Win8 label.

There's certainly nothing that we can do here - I suggest that you contact Dell and ask them for assistance.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I will contact Dell, hopefully I can avoid spending 100 euro.

Joris

PS, BIOS must have been updated end of 2013 then, the laptop is at least 3 years old.

It's possibly the BIOS update that wiped the SLIC table.

Good luck with Dell.
