Replacement Router - Work network

Power Outage took out our old router so replaced it. Have about 17 devices, all seen and working just fine. Wifie's puter ran fine the 1st day, except mapped networked drives were not functioning. Disconnected all of them, tried to set up work network and just can't get there.

Device Manager says device is working properly
Network and Sharing Center shows only "Unidentified Network / Public Network
You can't change Public Network.
Clicking the icon just brings up the above and there are no other Network locations
Set up a new network tells me to wait 90 seconds and nothing ever happens
Windows can't create network map o course cause only option is Public
NIC is Killer E22000 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Router is Asus AC5300
Rebooting Router was No Go (everything else on network OFF)

Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP address

-The network config on the Local Area Connection Network Connection Details as showing an "Autoconfiguration IP4 Address" of 169.254.128.155 which is outside the address range of 198.xxx.y.zzz

-I set the fixed IP address . Subnet for the NIC and set the Default Gateway and Preferred DNS server to the router's. Again, no luck.

-I expect this is a Windows networking "can't get away from public network" issue than an IP address conflict issue. Any suggestions ?

I manually configured the card to xxx.yyy.z.4 / 255.255.255.0 / and set the same manually in the router ... no luck

The 169 IP means DHCP isn't being picked up. The router may have a different IP than the old one you don't say if your using wireless or cable does router show cables connecting by lighting ports? Check DHCP is running on router ok check to see if under wireless user isolation isn't set

Wireless is not involved. The PC does not have a wireless NIC, only ethernet (See above ... NIC is Killer E22000 Gigabit Ethernet Controller). It didn't work even when I fixed the IP address, subnet and gateway. There are 18 other devices on the network, all working fine. All wired devices have fixed IP addresses set manually at the router


The two network printers have fixed IPs set at the device which is the reason I changed the Default Gateway so save the trouble of manually setting them again. The network printers work fine, the router utility does not "see them" however.


Again, as noted above the router and NIC were set to the identical IP addresses, subnets and default gateways with no luck. I have placed it back to letting the router assign the address but the system is just not seeing it no matter if address is assigned or fixed at both ends. Windows says the "device is working properly".

Default IP Address (Old Router Netgear) -192.168.1.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default IP Addresss (New Router Asus) 192.168.50.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
New IP Addresss (New Router Asus) 192.168.1.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.

Again, I don't believe this a hardware issue ... it stems from being unable to use anything but a Public Network, everything else is on "Work network":.

Don't get that you have two IP for router on different subnets one of which is wrong what are the two?

Not sure where you got idea there were two routers or two IP gateways. There is just an old router and a new router. The new router came out of the box with it's default gateway of 192.168.50.1 and I changed it to 192.168.1.1 to match the default Gateway of the dead router. B and C are the same router. I changed the default gateway of new router C to match the default gateway of the old router A

A. Default IP Address (Old Router Netgear) -192.168.1.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
This is the old router that died and is no longer in use.

B. Default IP Addresss (New Router Asus) 192.168.50.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
This is the new router as it came out of the box

C. New IP Addresss (New Router Asus) 192.168.1.1 / Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
This is the same new Asus router as above, taken out of the box and installed with a non-default IP Address to match the hard static IP addresses of network printers.

The previous post you put down a different subnet 255.255.255.255 you changed the IP of the router but did you change the DHCP range as that could be the problem

Ahh... I mistyped / you misread ... it was a copy / paste error. I was missing a digit and you just added one

There was no Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255, when I copy pasted 1st to 3rd, lost the last digit ... I kept looking for where I typed 255.255.255.255 an then I saw the 255.255.255. with missing last digit.

I did resolve the problem .... I should say wife did .... she said "why not switch cables with the plotter and my PC ?" . I said no way, device says it's working has the blinkie lightie thing at the connector. It all started when I assigned a static IP ... when it didn't work, I set back to having router assign.

But I wasn't going to get any peace until I did it so I switched PC and Plotter .... and it worked. I switched them back and they both worked. I assigned static IP to the PC again and it stopped working. Now I'm lost.

So I:

a) Connected the plotter ethernet cable to the PC, again
b) Connected the PC ethernet cable to the Plotter again
c) Assigned a static IP to the PC.

Why, I have no idea ....

A. Both cables work fine with a "router assigned IP"

B. All of a sudden, with her original cable, I can't assign a static IP to that PC. Using the cable that's been connected to the plotter for 12 years, her PC works fine. And the cable that's fed her last 3 PCs works fine on the plotter. I switched them back and forth like 6 times think it was a bad connection, but after 2 days of troubleshooting I'm cool with it.

And BTW, the forum is adding 2 or 3 returns after each paragraph .... any way to fix ? Weirdly enough after i open , edit and delete the inserted ones, it formats fine. Thanks for putting in the effort ... sorry about the missing digit.
