Hi
i was used to rip with eac + lame my cds collection
but some cds are scratched and windows xp after some errors slow down the transfer rate , some time from dma to pio

in short was enough a script reset.vbs -> http://winhlp.com/tools/resetdma.vbs home page DMA reverts to PIO | Windows Problem Solver

but in windows 7 i guess this trick doesn't work

i tried to run jv16 power tool 2008 and seek for
Code:
SlaveIdDataChecksum
MasterIdDataChecksum
UserMasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed
UserSlaveDeviceTimingModeAllowed

no results

now i'm just a bit scarry to rip my cds

is there a safe way to reset the dma in w7?

thanks
best regards

Try the following:

1) Update your motherboard drivers (at least chipset and storage).

2) Update the bios. See if there is a dma setting in the bios. If there is, enable it.

3) Uninstall the drive (in Device Manager) and reboot. Windows will detect the drive on reboot and use it. Now try enabling dma in the normal way.

Is it an IDE Optical drive?

If so open task manager and expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right click on the Primary or Secondary IDE channel (whichever the drive resides on) and select uninstall, then reboot, the IDE device should return to normal DMA operation.

For SATA devices it is similar except you will right click on the appropriate "ATA Channel" and uninstall, reboot.

hi, i have the same problem with the DVD drive only running in PIO, i can't get it to stay enabled through device manager. there are no BIOS options to enable DMA
uninstalling the IDE channels does not work, in any combination of uninstalling, removing, rebooting.
the reghack is useless for win7 users.
maybe just an issue with win7 and the motherboard drivers... that will probably never be addressed.

anybody know how to force DMA mode ?

I know its an old thread but thanks Mombodog, uninstalling the offending channel and rebooting has gotten the drive back to UDMA 5 once again:D Might not last forever but for now no more hour and a half long burns.
Cheers!
