I'm wishing to reset my laptop to the way I bought it. Basically I want to re-install windows 7 onto my E-System laptop without loosing the drivers. I don't care about the other files on it, I just want my laptop to be able to run properly, just like new, without any files.
I was wondering if there is any possible way to do this without the Windows 7 CD because when I bought my laptop it was already installed. I would love some help for this because I don't really know anything about computers.

Thanks,
Paul :)

Hi,

With most new systems that come pre-installed with Windows Vista/7 there's a factory partition that houses a backup of the original OS. You can access the factory reset option by 1 of 2 ways...

1, When booting up, it'll state press ** to access setup or ** to run system restore (or similar).

2, When in Windows, under Start -> All Programs there'll be an E-System Recovery Manager (or similar).

Just run the recovery manager and the computer will take care of the rest, even to a point here you can actually save you're user files in some cases.

You can do what is called a factory reset.. Usually pressing a certain f key on boot will bring you to the restore partition, which will allow you to restore to factory specs.
Its in your manual and online. If you cannot find it, give us your computer and model number and you will get help.

Applicable for E-system 3083 Laptop/other E-System laptops:

when the pc is off turn it on by pressing the power button, immediately after you press the power button start tapping the F10 button and keep tapping until the recovery menu appears, select a full format (destructive recovery) and follow the instructions for this option. destructive does not mean it will break anything, it means it will remove all data and start again from scratch, this is always the best option and the one needed if you have installed a different copy already, it will remove the other copy of windows totally and reinstall your proper copy, you will probably need to enter the windows product key, it is on a greenish sticker probly on the back or side of the case, write it down carefully so you will have it in case it asks you for it, do this before you start the reinstallation.

The recovery console will return your laptop to exactly how it was when you bought it. If sound/video was working then, then it will after a factory reset.

If you have a rescue partition, it'll hold all the necessary drivers.
It basically will reset your laptop to the state it was in when you bought it (hence factory reset ;)

I bought the Laptop with Windows 7 on it. So I didn't get the installation box or anything to do with it. So if I need the product key I can't get it can I?

If win7 was preinstalled on the PC, then you should also have a recovery partition. At least in 95% that is the case.

And as such it's an OEM machine and the factory install will pre-install the key for you. If you check the underside of the laptop you should find your Windows 7 product key.

Okay, I used F8 upon start up before it shows the Windows 7 logo. Followed the instruction (Repair -> Destructive) and didn't need my Windows 7 Key. All this set it to the EXACT way I bought it. All the drivers and just as new speed wise. Thanks for your help guys :)
