Solved Restore Points

This is more out of curiosity than anything else.

I find using restore points very beneficial especially when I am installing new software. If I make a mistake installing new software then by having manual restore point prior to the install, I can do an instant restore and fix what every I need to.

This is what I don't understand. I started keeping a record of my manual restore points. What I find is that they do NOT last very long. 24 hours in about the record that they show up.

That is without any updates for new software installs.

I was just wondering why the manual restore points don't last any longer.

Also, dual boot setup sometimes causes the restore points to be deleted at every boot.

How big is your shadowstorage. You can find out with this command:

vssadmin list shadowstorage

Saw this thread. Nice links there. Thanks. I had that problem in a dual boot sometime 2010. Never did solved that so I disregarded restore points and just relied on regular image backups.

Same here. I too rely on regular image back ups however restore points can save lot of time and is more of a quick win.

There was a time I did liked restore points. Even used the auto-restore point creation tool here in the forums but when I shifted to dual boot and later triple boot the issue arose. So regular image backups is now my cup of tea

Yesterday I changed my usage for restore points from 319 mb to 2 gb. This morning the last two manual restore points were still showing. I think this is at least extending the time I will see manual restore points.
