I restored an HP system recently from an external Toshiba HDD. The restore worked other than the fact that I now only get a black screen with a cursor after windows loads. I can press ctrl alt del and the menu comes up but nothing will start when selected. I ran scf/scannow as administrator figuring it may be a file system error but it could not complete and fails at 51% with the error "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". The system starts in safe mode just perfectly. The only thing I can think that is different is the hard drive. It is a different brand. There are four partitions on the HDD. Ask me for any other info!! The backup and restore software on the toshiba is Backup Now EZ. When windows boots, I get a newdev.dll error stating it cannot be started because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. help?
