I restored an HP system recently from an external Toshiba HDD. The restore worked other than the fact that I now only get a black screen with a cursor after windows loads. I can press ctrl alt del and the menu comes up but nothing will start when selected. I ran scf/scannow as administrator figuring it may be a file system error but it could not complete and fails at 51% with the error "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". The system starts in safe mode just perfectly. The only thing I can think that is different is the hard drive. It is a different brand. There are four partitions on the HDD. Ask me for any other info!! The backup and restore software on the toshiba is Backup Now EZ. When windows boots, I get a newdev.dll error stating it cannot be started because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. help?

Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 32 bit.....Not to...
Computer Manufacturer/Model Number
IBM Thinkpad T43 by Lenovo...built in 1998 and still going strong, Dell Inspiron 1545(great price)

Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 32 bit.....Not too impressed so far
Ran CCcleaner then chkdsk/f and we are back up and running!! My guess is that the old restore date was trying to pull registry entries and drivers for the old hard drive therefore resulting in the newdev.dll error.
