Restoring factory settings.

As a favour to a friend, I'm cleaning there laptop from spyware/stupid crap they've done.

Restoring it to factory settings is (other than fully wiping the main drive) the only way fully clean it (Also really the only option due to the said person not having a recovery disk).

The infected laptop is a compacq I'm not too sure on the specific model, It's running Windows 7 32bit Home Premium.

Booting in to windows BIOS and trying to restore it to factory setting yealds a slight problem; a re-occurring warning before attempting to restore.

Warning, your laptop is currently running on battery power.
Recovery Manager requires that your laptop is plugged into an AC power outlet.

The battery is at full power, but the warning keeps me from continuing restoring factory settings even though I have the laptop plugged in.

Is there a way to change the power received from the battery to the AC adapter? I've tried removing the battery and plugging in the laptop, it's receiving power but I can't boot it like that.

The Recovery Manager does not seem to be recognising that the Adapter is plugged in and I can't continue the recovery process because of this warning message.

Any help with this would be much appreciated, I've really not dealt with laptops and battery issues. As far as I know there are no hardware problems.

sounds like you need to enter the power settings through windows ?

just maybe a idea other then that it should switch over from battery to ac when plugged in

check windows power settings for laptops you might be able to swap power consuming mode and re-direct the power from portable to desktop use

Try clean Reinstalling Windows 7 from booted Install DVD to get beyond the corrupt useless factory utilties and use the better versions built into Win7.

You only need any Win7 retail installer to unlock all versions and get a perfect install using the tips given in the link.

You may want to try unplugging the battery and leaving the mains lead plugged in. This may force the system to register "mains only" power and allow for the factory restore to continue.

   Tip

Switch the laptop off, unplug the cable then remove the battery. You can then plug the cable back in and turn the machine back on
