Resume has stopped working

My W7 laptop (HP/Compaq 6710b) has stopped resuming properly. When I try to resume from Sleep, I just get a black screen. The backlight does not appear to be on. There is no response to anything that I can try, CTRL/ALT/DEL included. There's no disk activity according to the disk light. You _can_ turn on and off the Wifi light by touching the touch button that the 6710b has. The only way out that I've found is to force the machine off by holding down the power button, then turn it on again.

When try to resume from Hibernate, it says Windows was not shut down properly, and gives me the normal options not including Resume.

All of this used to work properly until a week or two ago.

Any ideas what's gone wrong or how to correct it?

Thanks - Rowan

You could try a system restore point to before the problem started (you can always undo the restore).

OR try changing your Power settings:

On advanced settings, set the Processor Power Management> Maximum processor state to 100%

This setting seems to work for many with laptops with your problem.
