Where dod you want bootmanager and bootmenu? It is on D now (Disk1). You want it on E (system reserved)? system reserved is useless now. What is/was on D now ... old system disk?

I would want it on E or C, since that is the main drive. D was an old system disk but i wiped it clean & now use it for media storage & partial backups.

Dont worry about sethc.exe, that was when i needed to change my password while I was logged out so i replaced the sethc.exe in the windows folder that is for sticky keys, with cmd so i could use shell commands to change the password, by activating sticky keys.

Move it to E , see http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/209885-bootmgr-move-c-easybcd.html
Move to E!! After that E is active. Mark D inactive. F and H are active as well!!! why??

You didn't copy it back!?

cmd.exe works?
sethc.exe .... opens cmd.exe?
anyway...your problem, not related to your question.

I'm not sure what exactly it means when they are active, are they not supposed to be active?

As for sethc, yes whenever I press shift 5 times, it opens cmd.exe so i can use commands even when I'm not logged in. Dont worry its not a problem, I kept the original sethc.exe so I can return it, I've just been too lazy :p

If I make E the boot drive, then does that mean I cant delete its drive path from "My Computer"?

Also, why is D referred to as "System" drive? Windows is only installed on the C drive, & I would like to keep D as a media/backup drive, not a system drive.

This is what happens when you don't have the WIn7 HD in Disk0 position. The repairs you ran moved the System boot files to a preceding Primary partition.

In addition only the partition (SYstem Reserved) booting Win7 should be marked Active. Mark all others Inactive now: Partition - Mark as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums

Then unplug all other HD's, swap the cable for DISK0 to the Win7 HD if at all possible.

Now boot into Win7 installation media or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts and System Reserved holds the System Active flag. This is the only method that will handle all aspects of moving the boot files including rewriting the Repair console to F8 boot menu.

You can then plug back in the other HD's and make sure their partitions are all still marked Inactive.

Finally, remove the drive letter from System Reserved partition so nothing can write to and foul it: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

Im not sure, but i think i've seen part of the problem.

When i boot into recovery, the actual C drive is assigned the letter D, which is the drive where the boot files were placed, but its disconnected now, while the reserved partition is assigned C. Is there a way to change this letter back to C?

Kenny -

The drive letters are not always the same in WinRE. Follow the steps closely in blue link tutorial to mark Inactive. If you need a picture of the drives with labels affixed use Partition Wizard

I gave you the exact steps to resolve this, which have worked tens of thousands of times here before.

Any other questions? :geek:

Dont worry, I understood the process, I had actually sorta fixed it, though your process was much more official :p

I was just concerned, because repair showed that the recovered OS was on the 'D' drive, while the original D drive still has the old boot files, & EasyBCD still recognises it as the boot device, however the main drive still boots fine without the original D drive attached, so i guess i can live with 2 copies of the boot manager.

Thanks for the help :D

Why wouldnt you want both HD's independently bootable? You said you cloned one over to the other, so it should be the same, right?

The cleanest way to Dual Boot them is using the BIOS Boot order priority for preferred HD, then trigger other one using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

If this isn't what you want, then install EasyBCD to the primary Win7 to add the other to a Dual Boot menu.

ACTIVE means the boot partition. So the partition with boot manager and boot menu. It's just a mark for MBR's boot code to jump to that partition.
