My SD card slot does not work.
I am able to install this , and get an updated driver off windows update.
HOWEVER, in device manager, I see this message with a yellow "!"

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers
required for this device. (Code 31)

Have carried out an sfx /scannow but no corrupted files are reported.
Any ideas how to fix this?

My computer's make is Advent and I cannot get any joy from anyone online regarding my problem. I have posted to the Advent's forum and again, no one seems to know or answer.
These are the details:
Advent fp9004
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

If you can provide a link to a driver's update, will this install automatically after downloading, or do I need to force the installation and what is the recommended way?

I would be very grateful for any information.
Ton

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

If you get an updated driver from Windows Update it means its on your computer now, you could manually try to install the Ricoh driver from the Device Manager .

from the device manager right click, search manually on your computer the path.

Follow this tutorial:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/97061-driver-install-device-manager.html

You could try to locate the driver name in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

If not working...the only link i founded for ricoh drivers v6.0:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37872.exe

Download the softpack sp37872 and extract it with 7-Zip for 32-bit Windows

Before:
Create yourself a restore point

Run the Setup.exe inside the extracted folder sp37872.

Note:
You can also manually install the driver from the Device Manager by pointing the search to look at the extracted softpack sp37872 if running the setup.exe doesn't work properly on your machine.

Ricoh Sd Host controller

Hello.
Thank you for the information but I am still not getting anywhere with this issue, in fact, I am rather baffled by it all.
So, on Device Manager, when I right click on my SDA Standard Host Controller (with the exclamation mark), on the General Tab-Device Type is SD Host Adapter.
Manufacturer: Ricoh, but Location Unknown.
On Driver Details; Installed Driver version is 6.1.7601.17514
Date 21/6/06 Digital Provider is Microsoft and Signer is Microsoft Windows ( but the drivers manufacturer appears to be "Realtek"?)
The above driver can be found at C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/sdbus.sys.
and this is the driver the system says it is up to date each and every time I update it, but it does not work and the installation system does not let me replace it with anything else.
On C:/Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository, there is a driver named Ricoh.inf_86_neutral etc....which I am not sure what it is but in any case is not recognised by the installation wizard and will not upload.
Your other link for Ricoh drivers v6.0, after downloading, turns out to be a Flash Media Controller Driver and again, it is not accepted.
So where do I go from here, which is supposed to be the right driver for this card and how do I install it?
Thanks for your time.

The sdbus.sys is a generic Microsoft driver that "SDHostRicoh" is using in replacement.

The Ricoh in C:/Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository, turns to be related to scanner.

Some reporting that they have to enable the SD Card reader and disable it in order to make it work...not much my thinking for a working solution!

In the "Device Manager" you could try to look at the "Details" Tab (next to the General Tab & Driver tab), scroll for the material ID...it should give you something like USB\VID_xxxxx&xxx_xxx or USB\VID_xxxx&xxx_xxxx&xxx_xxxx

HARDWARE ID tutorial

Copy/Past the ID, then try a search HERE:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx

It might not be a Ricoh driver it needs if you say Realtek name appeared...So it could be "Realtek Card Reader Controller" drivers?

Hi again,
Thanks for further info.
In Device Manager "Details", I cannot see a "Material ID", but there is a "Matching Device Info" : pci\ven_1180&dev_0822&subsys_833810f7.
A search on the Microsoft catalogue reveals nothing, but a search in Google shows it as a "Ricoh SD Host Controller". There is a 2008 W7 32 bit driver there which I have downloaded but after trying to manually upload it through Device Manager, it is back to the same old story: It says: The driver installed (Microsoft 6.1.7601.17514 date 21/6/06) is up to date.
I have disabled this driver then tried to install the different one but to no avail.
Is there not a way to uninstall this driver completely and get the system to accept a different driver whether it works or not?
I appreciate all you have done for me here but it looks like I will not be able to
resolve this issue.
This computer was bought as a "new/reconditioned" and I thought everything was working 100% but I never tried the SD Slot until now and it looks very much like
it probably never worked from the beginning and I cannot get any back up from the vendors.
Thanks anyway.
Ton

I know Dell Canada's support website has a driver for that exact device. Go to support.dell.ca and search for drivers for a Precision M4400 and then find the Richoh driver for windows 7 (x86) or (x64) whichever you use. That should work for you. Good luck!!

Looks your driver is a "Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader" support and compatibility with MMC/SD/XD cards.

Some are reporting that Hewlett-Packard (Those are for laptop, try for PC based ones if your is) does have those drivers for Microsoft Windows Vista.

This should be installed in Compatibility Mode for Windows Vista on a Windows 7 OS.

Maybe try again that "Softpack sp37872", link i gave on my first post, in Compatibility Mode.

The solution is not far, keep on!:)
