The problem seems to be a corrupt windows system file that is being referenced when a right click is performed. Unfortunately, SFC isn't finding the corruption in order to fix it. So, there are one of two things you can do. The easiest is the Repair Install, which shouldn't cause you to lose any data. The more arduous and less worthwhile solution is to click on the drop-down arrow on the error message you get and look for the file it is reporting to be corrupted. Extract that file from your Windows disc and replace it via command line to see if that fixes it.

If you can't extract through 7-Zip directly to the System32 directly while you're in Windows, then you can do the following...

Extract the file to the root of your C:\ drive. Reboot the system and boot to the Windows installation CD. When the first screen comes up asking you to pick a language, hit Shift + F10 and a command prompt will come up. In that screen, type "copy C:\ntdll.dll C:\Windows\System32\ntdll.dll". That should copy it over. Then reboot the computer as usual.

I wouldn't bother copying from another PC. I'd extract straight from the Windows disc so you know for sure it's a clean file.

Yea, Windows doesn't like you messing with system files while it's live, which is why I told you about the other option which is to move it via command-line while you're not booted into Windows.

The repair install should have fixed any type of corrupted system files. If you could take a screenshot of your programs installed via Control Panel -> Programs and Features, that might help us identify something else going awry.

If you read through the Tutorial of a Repair Install, you'll see that you should skim through the Windows.old folder to see if there's anything you still need and, if not, delete it to free up some lost space.

It doesn't appear there is anything installed that looks suspicious enough to merit why your machine is still acting up. At this point, I would save all of my game data and go with a complete clean reinstall. It sounds like we're going to end up going down multiple rabbit holes since nothing is pointing to a source of the problem by now. It's hard to say how or why this occurred when I wasn't there when it started to try and somehow link the result to the cause.

Hello itrip, have you tried a system restore to back before this issue appeared?

Saving your saved game data shouldn't cause any issues to persist past the format, if you wanted to do so. So, I wouldn't worry about that. Good luck with the clean reinstall.
