Hello all! My problem is this:

-There is a online shooting game called S4 League, some of you may heard of it.
I never had problems with this game untill now . In desesperate attempts to fix an error that I would get every 5-10 minutes after I logged in the game., I actually reformated my comp, multiple virus scan and I still would get the error. Then I thought " what about my router?!". TA-DAA. The router was the source of my problems since it blocked the connections the game needs to run smoothly.

So now that I found out the source of the problems, I need to know how to fix it. I wrote multiple tickets in the company support system and they told me this: " You should try to set your modem as BRIDGE and your router as a ROUTER." Then I sayd ok, and how do I do that!?!

They asked for the model names of my modem and router to tell me the exact configurations to do it. But they couldn't find them.

All this go me here!

Im in desperate need of help because if I want to play , I need to connect directly my computer to the modem and leave the router aside.

So basically what I want to know is:

-How do I set my modem as a bridge and router as router?
-If I set those correctly, will it damage or change any internet settings in the way to make internet slower or any different kinds?

Model Names are:
(MODEM) - Arris TM502G
(ROUTER) - SMC WBR14S-N2

Thanks!
PS: If you need further informations, just reply what you need and i'l tell you.

Look at the bottom of that modem, there should be an address (probably http://192....)

Open your web browser (while the modem is connected), and type that address in. Hit "Enter".

Look for an option to set it as a Bridge in the configuration pages.

TO change your routers settings you should be able to type 192.168.2.1. into you web browsers address bar. I can't figure anything out in terms of the username, so there might not be a default one, and there will either by no password, or it will be admin or smcadmin. You can change your settings from there.

Also, the FAQ from you routers manufacturer:
SMC Networks - PROMOTION EN_USA

It sounds like you might have to just forward the ports you need open to your computer from the router's internal settings.

I agree with DeaconFrost here. I don't think it matters who the ISP is and the virus scan will definitely not help. Follow the above advice to set your modem as a bridge. If the settings are not self-explanatory, then, I am sorry to point this out, look up the manual.

Next, do the same thing with the router. The address for the settings page is usually 192.168.x.x where x.x might be 2.1 or 1.1 or 1.0 - that depends on your router, it's either written on the router itself or in the manual. Once inside the settings, go to the NAT port forwarding menu and there type the ports you need to open for your game. The exact procedure depends on the router, I have not seen your particular model, but believe me when I say this - this procedure is usually well explained in the manual. If you don't have the manual - just download it from the manufacturer's website.

On the other hand, make a simple test - just get the router of the equation, connect the computer to the modem directly and see if the problem persists. If not, then the port forwarding will solve the problem.

If that modem doesn't have NAT capability then forwarding the correct ports on the router should work.

hi.........here you go for port forwarding
Port Forwarding S4 Leage on the SMC WBR14S-N2

Port Forwarding S4 Leage on the Arris TM502b

A bridge connection would require you to create a dial up broadband connection...first by going into modem setting-wan-selecting bridge connection instead of PPPoE or PPPoA. Then creating a dial up broadband connection in network and sharing center.

Your router should be handling the PPPoE if you bridge the modem.

Well I got a static IP for my computer ( not for the router ) and I portforwarded the ports I had too. It still isn't fixed. I tried to acess my modem page but I can only view the status page but Im pretty sure the problem is the router. Maybe I have double NAT?

About setting the modem as bridge, could you tell me how to do that exactly, step by step? Im still a noob in this sord of things. And doing so wouldn't it require to reconfigure my dad's and my brother's internet connection?

Arris login: 192.168.100.1. But you can't change any settings. This modem is a cable modem...this is a newer version of what I got from Comcast cable.

Depending on your isp, you may not be able to get a different modem. You never told us what isp you have...

I would investigate another router with more features, but those tend to be more expensive...

Ok I think I found out something that might work. Since my modem and router both the NAT funcionality ( I think ) , I tought maybe disabling the NAT funcionality on my router ( SMCWBR14S-N2 ) would maybe stop the conflict between my router and modem. But im not sure if it's a good idea or if it will work cuz I read that NAT prevent hacker attacks and stuff.

Please tell me your opinion about doing this!

Thanks!
