I have three (3) wireless modems with two setup as extenders. The primary, WRT600N, and one extender are dual band. The second, E3000,dual band is setup as a “Repeater Bridge”. The third unit, WN2000RPT, is just a single band extender. The purpose was to have continuous wireless through out the house because it was not working with only one unit. I now have the three units setup with their own SSID and Security Mode.

The Security Mode for all three is WPA2 Personal; the WPA Algorithms are all AES; the WPA Shared Key are all different for each modems band. Therefore when using wireless, you need to select which one you want. My intent was to only have two and those being a choice for the dual band units.

They are all setup and are working but I do not have a continuous wireless signal. As you travel through the house you need to change to another modem with each having its own SSID and a separate security code.

Should there only be one SSID for each band on all modems?

Should each modem be set to the same security mode for each band?

Or, what needs to be done to make this work?

Both Linksys modems are on DD-WRT software.

Thanks for the reply and the reference.

So it looks like I need to have one SSID and the same security mode in each unit.

I read that page and noticed that the following question was not asked:

Is the "Printed "DCHP" a typo and it should be DHCP, or if DCHP is correct, where do you find it?

Also, in my Linksys, I have a SPI firewall enabled, but where do I find the NAT firewall option so this can be enabled also?

Finished the job just now. All units are on the same security mode and the single through out the house is great. Never noticed that the modes needed to be the same where I had separate ones for each modem. Now there is two for the dual modems and a ext for the extender.

Thank you again!

Well it seem to work fine at the start and now I am in trouble.

I admit I had a slight problem in adapting the instructions to apply to the Linksys routers. This issue may be the source of my problems which are :

1. From my laptop attached to the E3000, known as the switch, I can not get into 192.168.1.235 on wireless or wired. I can get to 192.168.1.1 which is my primary router both ways and from either router. I have reset the switch and tried again, but still have the problem after I make the changes.

My numbers start at 192.168.1.100 and I have allowed for a maximum of 10 units.

MyLanViewer program does show all the parts but not the E3000

2. The "switch" was recognized by the "primary" when connected together but not when wireless. The Network icon in Windows Explorer for both machines only shows its computer, a router, and the network printer. The primary also shows the Netgear repeater. When the DHCP is off on the "switch", it gets its IP address from the "primary. From the above MyLanViewer, I was able to PING the Acer5620, the "switch" even though I can not see it. what then becomes the IP address for the "switch"?.

3. What really causes me to be concerned is that the Network and Sharing Center shows to many Networks. My laptop has a Atheros AR5007EG built-in network adapter and I use the Linksys WUSBN for wireless N. With this combination I have the following:
Wireless Network - MYSSID- Shared for the Atheros
Wireless Network -Connection 4 - MYSSID 3- for the WUSB
Wireless Network for 5 GHz Connection - SSIDMY
Wireless Network Connection 8 -Disabled - Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter 3
and variations which indicate Connections upto number 9.

I have only tired to maintain a connection for both 2.4 and 5 only but I get these variations. I did turn off the DHCP and the DHCP server on the switch; SSID, and security code is the same as the primary.

When connecting to the internet with the switch wired, there is not a connection. There is a connection to the internet wirelessly. The adapter settings show all bars green in either case, but there is either a slow connection or none on the laptop when next to the "switch". The speed of the internet increases greatly when it is relocated to either next to the "primary" or the 'repeater'.

I have tried and failed to get this to work.........any suggestions would be appreciated.
