When I type "%APPDATA% ... in Run > Enter
I get this result. "Favorites" in navigation pane has nothing to do with "%appdata%"
Why doesn't the navigation pane reflect the path "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming" ?

crap result.PNG

Should I be adding a switch (or something) to the %appdata% string to open the navigation pane as displayed in the address bar ?

File Properties:- (•) Show all files, folders and drives ... as True

Am I doing something wrong or is there a WinExp setting that must be tweaked ?

Hello Russell,

No worries. It's only a setting, and there's nothing that needs to be repaired.

That's perfectly normal by default since you opened to that location directly using an environmental variable. The location in the address bar in explorer is the true current location.

To have the proper folder selected in the navigation pane for this, you would only need to check the Expand to current folder option in the navigation pane settings like in the tutorial below.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1014-navigation-pane-automatically-expand-current-folder.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hi Brink :)
Thank you for your response
I already have ...
[ ] Show all folders <<< unchecked
[x] Expand to current folder <<< checked

... but Run:= %appdata% still does not expand the navigation pane

EDIT:
Just checked my settings in Classic Shell (Explorer) :o
- "Auto navigate to selected folder" setting
- changed from "Default" to "Always"

Classic Shell Explorer.PNG

While this has not "fixed" my original request...

  • I can live with copying the address string into a fresh WinExp > Enter ... to get nav-pane to respond
when I look in the mirror each morning I realise nothing is perfect!
  • You have helped me resolve not-auto-navigating-to-selected-folder
I use navigation keys to move through navigation pane, in preference to mouse movements.
Thank you :D

Good news so far. You could use this below instead to see more of the path, but it will still open the same if opened from the Run dialog.

%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming

Yes you are right.

Brink said:
%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming
... returns the same as %appdata%
... as does "%UserProfile%\AppData

:tip: Instead of using "Run" I get perfect result with WinExp > AddressBar:=%appdata% ... then "Enter"

Once again thanks for your help :)
