Hate the idea of cloud computing... Im just not "paying for everything" type of user... It is the best that you know all your files and important programs etc. are stored on your hard disk and not somewhere over the rainbow!!! Even if m sistem crash or i lose fies from hd ill be happier than knowing that somebody out there can see all the stuff im doing on my computer...

Port apps to a Virtual Machine before installing them on a real one.

OK 3D and Video content is still a problem in VM's but the next generation of Virtual Machine software will have this enabled in the Virtual Hardware.

Audio streaming already is not a problem with VM'S.

Virtualization even online will become a growing thing and is already advancing in several areas. Why?

From the corporate or institutional view point it will save on overhead for maintaining IT networks and large mainframes. For the average user the advages there would be running some of the latest apps without the necessity of keeping up with the latest hardwares for thing like large programs.

One example would running Cad online in a virtual environment while you sit at home with an old clunker only seeing 1-2gb of memory. With servers set up to accomidate things like that your personal overhead is cut for the small time monthly or whatever fee to use a service.

If you look at the Media Center included in Windows what do you need there in most cases? A paid subscription to an online service. You have to look at it as a new marketplace in those terms.

One place to go in order to keep on virtualization itself of course is the VTeam blogs seen at Windows Virtualization Team Blog Whether it's localized like running a second OS on your drive or using a virtual OS online at least you can follow some of the progress being made.

i hate virtual pcs, they slow my pc down to a CRAWL. once, i was up till 3 am installing this stuff in virtual box. the dang thing slowed my computer down so much, i uninstalled it about 20 minutes later. it was HORRIBLE. just had to say that.

I looked over the specifications for the laptop you have in your system specs there and would advise an upgrade of at least the 2gb upto the 4gb max where you can easily toss a couple of gig at any VM without bogging things down still having a good amount available for the host.

With a faster 3+ghz cpu and 4gb there still tends to be some pull down while nothing like you are mentioning there. Once you start up any vm you are then seeing more requests for cpu time as well as more memory being used.

What is interesting is when going to install Vista on the VPC when in beta it didn't take any longer to see what could go on go on then a typical clean install to the sata where Vista had been with all the updates including both service packs. Both took about 8 full hours while the desktop install saw somewhat more due to drivers, tv tuner card drivers/app, games as well, and then the printer.

Most VMs will automatically be configured to run off the NAT and have interent access...but if they actually do than it varies on a few factors...

It makes a difference on how you connect. If you are hard wired by ethernet into a modem the connection is immediate while usb and dial-up type connections can be a problem especially when the vm is on an external device like a flash drive or usb hard drive.

Here I actually changed ISPs in order to run the 64bit Windows as well as seeing Linux connect online even on a vm! At first the new ISPs modem was another problem until replaced just getting online with that. Virtual Box has a few network options there with NAT seen as the default.

I found the Chrome browser to be lacking there while it's still in it's own beta form!
