I just installed a new computer on a small network we have (Windows 7 running on the computers and Server 2012 running on the server), and I'm having trouble running some .exe files that are located on the network drive of the server from the user account. I can run them from the administrator account, and from the user account when clicking "run as administrator", but trying to do it just as a user isn't working. It's very odd, because I can run some .exe files, but not others. Any thoughts on what might be happening?

Does the user account have write access to the folder where the exe is stored? That is share and NTFS permissions. Some programs will try to create temp files in this location and will fail if this is not possible. This isn't really good practice but it is done.

I'll check that first thing tomorrow. Thanks. Though I believe that the user account had full permissions for the folders in question.

So the user account has full permissions for all of the folders on the network drive.

The error message that appears is "SQL server driver connection creation failed. The application cannot proceed and will be terminated."

Found it! I changed the permissions in the registry for the ODBC, to allow the user account to modify it, and the applications on the network drive work correctly now.
