It looks like I'm getting this error and ran hd tune's utility which is telling me this -

This is for a Seagate ST3750528As (750gb) on a P5Ql-Vm EPU Asus mobo - all OEM on an Asus Essentio CM5570.

Going to d/l and run Seatools from Seagate:

SMART, short DST, and long DST FAILED -

Created a new disk image, repair disk, and backed up my data for the inevitable death

I do have Geek Squad and have the sinking feeling this machine will be sent to ASUS for a disk swap, wish they could just extract and replace at Best Buy, should I even bother with Geek Squad....money well spent right?

Or - should I get a purportedly better manufacturer's HD, maybe even SSD (found a IDE 32 gb for $100) - that could be used as my my OS drive.

Barely even used this drive/pc - next stop, Home Build!

If the system/ HDD is still under warranty - RMA it.

If you have to pay for new HDD - purchase it and install it yourself, then reinstall OS.

I have to find out if the machine is still under warranty being 2 months out from the 1 year purchase date (planned obsolescence ... hmmm), and I'm pretty sure Geek Squad will send out the machine (my nephew's was handled this way and what a drawn out mess)

I think I may just continue to use it errors and all - my GS coverage is until 12/11 - but what a let down, 500+ gb not even put to use.
