Is it normal for a 6870 to have an average of 84-86C temp under full load? Air flow seems to be good inside case. Checked some benchmarks and noticed that others have an average of 65-75. Should I worry about anything?

well i would chalk it up to how the air is flowing through the case and do you have enough fans in postion to make it cooler besides its own fan my hd5770 never got that hot but close

my 6870 is like 10 to 15 degrees cooler than my 5770

Furmark :D , but I ran it in windowed mode, low res, without any AA, fps 100+ didn't seem to cause any pressure on the gpu.

No pressure but the temps seem to be high and you ran this on low resolution would hate to see how hot it would get on max settings have you tryed it yet?

Nahh, not really.

Modern video cards are tanks, anything below ~mid 90s is completely normal.

Having said that, I'd recommend setting up a custom fan profile for that HD 6870 of yours using MSI Afterburner.

Here's a nice little guide:

How To: Adjust your Fan-Curve in MSI Afterburner - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

Post back your results.

Tried MSI Afterburner, it was quite familiar since I was a rivatuner user in the past.. created just a little bit more aggressive fan profile, lost 12C on the average.

hehe... I was curious bout the same thing when I upgraded to my latest card. I was used to running 45% under a full load and thought that was hot. 80-100 seems to be the norm now.

Custom fan profiles ARE awesome. I set my fan to be at 60% as a minimum, that helped keep my temps in the middle 60s and 70s. Under full loads... sometimes 80s. Now, I don't have an AMD/ATI card anymore, but I'm just agreeing that custom fan profiles are great for keeping temps lower.
