The driver won't install from the Catalyst Suite.

The drivers installed through Windows Update, which is fine enough, but I want to install the Catalyst Control Center too. When I download the update from ATI.com and choose the 5XXXX series for Windows 7 64-bit, it won't install when you get to the "Install" and "Uninstall" buttons, though it decompresses the install files initially. After hitting "Install" the install crashes and I have to choose to either close the program or search online for solutions.

Tried running as administrator, aside from that and basic restarts and system scans, I'm out of ideas.

I remember reading the HD5770 had issues with the 64 bit Windows 7 when I was looking to purchase a 5xxx series for my 435T/9k and opted to go with the XFX HD5870 XXX Edition and downloaded my drivers from the XFX site which were version 10.3 and it is now up to 10.6.

I saw no difference in 10.4 and it actually was not as robust when I ran the Unigine Heaven Benchmark so I went back to 10.3. You might need to clean your drivers using CCleaner and Drivesweeper since you have issues then download version 10.3 of the CCC Suite or just go with the drivers alone to see if this gets you going correctly and you can add CCC later.

I would search for 10.3 Catalyst to try, I use it on my 5850, mainly because the versions after have bugged Future Pinball.

CompTIA A+ certified (220-800 series) in July 2013.
I tried both CCleaner and Driver Sweeper but neither changed anything about the install (also found a download of 10.3 but it also didn't work).

I ended up using "Windows Install Clean Up" to manually remove the old CCC with all of it's extra stuff too and after a restart the installs worked fine. I think it was just leftover gunk from the previous version that was crashing it.

Now to test it out... though I'm still on the power supply that came with my computer (370 Watt), need to upgrade that in the future too. Tried using my old tower's 500 Watt, but it didn't have enough SATA power connections (it was made for optical drives with the older connections).

Looks like you've got the main problem sorted out. I think the 5770 rccomends a 400 w PSU but what you really want to look at are the voltss on the 12v rail(s) I'd say try and not go below 26-28 v on a single 12v rail if you buy a PSU with more than one rail keep and eye on the 12v rails raing and try and keep them as high as you can and you should be OK. Fabe
