Sapphire HD 5770 crashing - solved

Hello :)
Recently, while playing graphically intense games, my system has been crashing with no BSOD. (simply, just turning off) My first reaction was heat, so I began to watch my temps. They never reached my emergency turn off levels set in the BIOS. I then figured my PSU was not strong enough to handle 100% load, so I upgraded to a 600W PSU. (rated far higher then what my system pulls) The error still persists... so, I updated my M/B BIOS, update my VBIOS, ran memtest (with 0 errors over 4 hours), ran prime95 (4 hours with no system crash), ran furmark3D (for 30 minutes, no crash) It usually crashes within 10 minutes of playing, for example, Need for Speed ProStreet. Keep in mind, this game is rather old and a lot less demanding then other games. It will also crash playing Medal of Honor for about 10 minutes or so. Playing World of Warcraft, it usually won't crash. (though it happens rarely) Scouring the system event logs proves fruitless. With no BSOD, at that, I assumed it would have to be a hardware issue. (yes, I have it set to show BSOD instead of restarting immediately)
What should I do? :x

Thanks for the quick reply, that one (with the CCC v2) is the only one I haven't tried yet. Might as well. Will post back shortly with the results.

You can try that...
http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/138733-ati-driver-install-assistance.html#post1190827
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(Sometimes this happens from high CPU temperature)
Are you sure ur CPU temp is the right one?Because a friend of mine had the same issue and at the end was a high CPU temperature problem.
Test ur CPU temps with this Core Temp
Download the 64Bit version.
-----------------------------------------------
If you want to control ur graphic card temp in ati ccc enable the Ati Overdrive,DONT touch anything else just enable the fan control and set it accordingly ur needs.

Absolutely positive it is not heat related. My thermals are a good 10 degrees under what my computer should be emergency shutting down at when it occurs.

The best drivers as of now are the 10.10 all other versions after suck .

I tryed all drivers from here on after and all of them are unstable.

I have had the same issue random bsods games just disappearing ,even some games the bosses were invisable but everyone else in co -op can see him .

I hope they get this resolved it is alot of money being pumped into these things and they still can't get it right ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,most likley you will have to revert to a old driver even 10.9 works on the hd5770 after all i still own one so try the 10.9 or 10.10 you won't crash anymore

GoodLuck !

I use 10.11 and 10.12 and i n never had any issues with my 4890.
It must be a 5770 compatibility issue then?

I owned the XFX HD5770 and sold it after a month.

With mine i lowered the ram speed and increased the clock speed to 1000 and 1000 as at stock ram speeds it would crash all the time. It might be worth trying lowering your ram speed and see if the crashes still happen.

well almost every driver used except 10.10 has bsod'ed my rig lowered gpu setting increased fan /cpu check oc's setting checked ran prime ran metest .

I just chalk it up to the driver and win 7 suggest the same thing after multiple reboots off of a bsod

Let's just say you got lucky cause everyone else i know can't stand these drivers period

Thanks everyone for all the input. Gonna try 10.10 and see how if I can get it to crash. The thing about it though is I don't get a BSOD. I would love a log or something else to turn itself up to give me a better suggestion as to what the actual problem is.

I still think it is a driver issue

Amd keeps releasing drivers but fail to make them support the card properly without crashing it

That's a good point, I have an onboard. I guess I shouldn't just assume it's the gpu hehe. When I wake up later today I'll test it out.

what is the card settings by the way ?

It was set to stock. (I don't overclock)
850 MHZ GPU Clock
1200 MHZ Mem clock

edit: bumped down the mem to 1055 after an earlier suggestion for it, I'll see if it fixes it later today before testing on board vga

UPDATE/solution?:
I used ATI Overdrive in the Catalyst Control Center to change the cards memory frequency to 1055 MHZ. (a good chunk below what it comes at stock) I cannot reproduce a card crash with these settings. I'm sure I can play around with it and find a higher value that it won't crash it. To anyone with the same issue good luck. Thank you everyone in the thread for all your help. :)
