Hello,

My problem is about saving and restoring the registry under Windows 7.

I made a backup of my registry (using the "File -> Export" menu in "regedit.exe").

Then I tried to restore it as is using the "File -> Import" menu in "regedit.exe" (and I also tried using the command "reg import" in command line in "safe mode with command line").
It fails.
Fortunately I was on a test machine.
I'm very concerned about not knowing how to properly save and restore my registry.

Thank you for helping.
Best regards.

Hello Lea,

The problem with using that method is that you will not be able to completely restore all of the registry since it's currently in use.

One option would be to create restore points that would include a back of the full registry. A system restore would restore the registry to how it was in the selected restore point. Another option would be to create a system image. It includes everything. Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hello,

It's me again.
I just would like to know if it's possible to create a system restore point in command line (to put it in a .bat file later) and if yes, how?

Thank you for helping.
Best regards.

Hello and thank you for your answer :).

I'm not familiar with VBS. I would have preferred a simple ".bat" script...
Yet, I tested the first script available in the page you pointed me to (h ttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/494-system-restore-point-shortcut.html).
This script simply creates a restore point "Instant Restore Point" and can be executed from the command line:
HTML:
cmd.exe> Instant_Restore_Point.vbs
It worked.

Thank you and best regards.

You're most welcome. I'm glad that'll work for you. :)

Yeah, I would have like to have used .bat as well, but .vbs only had the commands for what it needed to work properly.
