Solved System restore stuck on restoring the registry

I just got a hp laptop running windows 7 and had to do a system restore due to a problem with an Office download. But my computer is stuck in the restore-has been "restoring the registry" for over an hour now. When I turn off the computer, it goes right back to that screen-I can not start it in safe mode. How do I fix this?

I don't suppose you have any kind of win7 boot media?

Turn off the computer. Turn it on and quickly keep tapping F8 on the BIOS screen. Then select Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.

Thank you both for your replies. I ended up having to go back to factory settings which was not a big deal at this point because the computer is so new. Thanks again.
