I tried to upload rosetta stone cd... window froze..called a RS tech... he conected me to one of their engineers... and he tried many ( several computer-share's ) different options... nothing helped. He said I may have damage from a virus infection.
I have the free AVG and Malwarebytes anti virus
I have ran trouble shooting programs.. registry fix's... everything I know to do.. which isn't very much..as I am a rookie at this..
Does anyone know anything that might help me find a way to find and heal any damaged files or folders ??.. or perhaps some other fix??
Any info would be appreciated

Hi! boomer69, welcome to 7F :)

Your hard disk may have some file system errors or bad sectors.
So lets try this to rule out those possibilities:
Disk Check

Try to pick a time that allows you to run this procedure un-interrupted because it can take a while to run.

See
warnsmall.png
Warning

in step 11.

After step 4, go to step 10c,

Then you could run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and post results, good or bad.

Have you had problems installing any other programs?
Have you ran these programs to see if you do?

Type in online scanners into your search box, and pick one like eset, panda, CA, to get a really good scan.

Personally I'd get rid of AVG it has been known to cause install problems, try MSE http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ Then see if it calms down for installations.
If you want to go to Avast or Avira or whatever later you can do so.

Another thing you can do is run a system restore to before this started to happen:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Post back, let us know how your doing.

Edit:

I just googled Rosetta stone freezes during install, and it seems to be happening a lot.

Have you tried right clicking on the file and then click on "Run as Administrator:"?

Boomer, with deleting AVG I hope you still have some type of Security for your PC.

I ask again, Have you had problems installing any other programs?

You could try to install Rosetta though http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

Can you get into event viewer to see if there is any information around the time you try to make the install that may give us a clue.

Start Orb\All programs\Administrative Tools\Event viewer\Windows Logs\Setup
But check all logs in that time frame for anything suspicious.

Edit:
Have you tried looking on the Manufacturer's site to see if there are any updates for your machine? I'm thinking video, sound, but could be any thing related to your PC like a hard disk controller:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4006089

I'll be around, I have to figure out why I can install Flash on my FireFox browser, but not my DW's IE8.
