Screen Locking Up

This has been going for a good while. Early in morning after booting up and open a few pages Win 7 will lockup. I can not close the open items or open new ones. The only way to do anything is to press the power button and shutdown.

I can then restart the PC normally. The longer the day goes, the less likely this lockup will occur. I have deleted cookies, ran MSE and Ccleaner. They do NOT find anything that should be causing this.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

BTW the only new software added to this PC is Nordvpn. It does NOT seem to cause this issue, but one never knows.

Hi

dont take this as gospel but if i remember correctly, when W7 was still officially supported during its twilight, Ccleaner was actually causing this kinda problem -- IF it was NOT set to MANUAL.

I would shoot over to Blackvipers W7 site, and depending upon your requirements choose either the base or barebone settings
Black Viper's Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Service Configurations - Black Viper | BlackViper.Com
note this is the recommended way you also have the option of unchecking startup items in system configuration

as for your AV/VPN, the AV part of it will be checking the connections constantly, so i would go for the matching pair.
Kaspersky has both for FREE
the lightest/easiest AV i know of is Bitdefender free, some are real hogs

i would also
turn off windows updates, and the drivers and associated MS programs parts
"remove" IE11, uncheck in programs/features
check update settings for programs/peripherals - Ccleaner, printers etc
install/run TFC, temporary file cleaner -

I have not checked for a couple months but the upgrade to W10 was still availble for free, march.

torchwood, I do NOT start Ccleaner automatically. I only start it when I am going to use it. Is that the manual setting? I am not sure how to make it manual.

I went to the Black Viper site and spent several minute looking at it. I did NOT see base or barebones. I will go back spend more time there.

Thanks for the info. This situation seems to be get worse day by day.

I will even thank them in advance.

So far this morning, W7 has locked up 4 times in less than 2 hrs.
Scratching my head is exasperation.

torchwood, I am not sure the upgrade to Win 10 is still working. I was able to download the Media Creation Tool. I am not sure I will ever use it, but I have it just in case.

I think I have the screen locking up solved. I had not opened the case to the pc in years, I opened the case and cleaned out as much dust as I could and so far this morning, it is working much better.
