Solved screen resizes after waking from sleep

HP Pavillion dv6-6033cl Entertainment Notebook PC

After waking from sleep, the screen is first box-like, then after a moment or two, bounces back to fill the laptop screen. This started a couple of weeks ago. There has been no new software installed, no new downloads; Windows updates automatically as well as McAfee. McAfee reported a Trojan just prior to this happening but removed it.

This does not happen when I start up the computer.

What I have already tried:

System Restore to the time before this happened
Safe Mode and re-boot (can't test in Safe Mode because computer doesn't sleep in Safe Mode)
Selective Start Up
Malwarebytes scan
Windows Defender Offline scan
Checked that the monitor is detected
Graphics driver uninstalled and re-installed (it is the latest driver)
HP Utility Tools and diagnostic tests
BIOS and chipset driver updated
Disabled the graphics driver but in lower resolution the computer doesn't go to Sleep
Uninstalled McAfee (problem persisted and I re-installed it)

This is not a major problem but I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Suppose you have tried the driver for the graphics if not Software & driver downloads HP Pavilion dv6-6033cl Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support follow the prompts

Always, first remove the infection before using System Restore. Otherwise, you risk spreading the infection into the restore files.

Since you already did this, I would delete all restore points, turn off and turn on System Restore.

Your might also have a Moderator move your post to our System Security Forum.

Once there our specialist can have you download the necessary scans tools and you can post the log results from those tools for analysis.

They will then assist you in using the proper tools to remove your specific infection.

Well I agree to a point John and no offence but I didn't see any reference to doing the scans I asked for as the OP has only down those two and myself I do not like McAfee at all I think it is a piece of rubbish.

There are other things to scan with as I am sure you are aware and personally I would get rid of the McAfee get a decent security suite - there are plenty as you also probably already know and other scanning apps one can use if the OP wants to checkout with some he should try here.

As for being security issue the problem is primarily a graphics one mate, and we should try and sort his problem out there first.

I did forgot to mention earlier I do support the fixes Icit2lol suggested.

No harm in trying those first before moving to the next steps.

OP maybe using McAfee because it comes free with their ISP service.

I use Norton 360, because it's free with Comcast.

Comcast used to supply McAfee but switched to Norton a couple of years ago.

Good that we are rowing thew same boat John now I am hoping the OP will respond soon as that SAS is very good at tracking stuff and trojans the ADW finding rubbish in the registry.

Okay, I downloaded and ran all of the scans suggested by ICit2lol, and cookies and spyware have been removed; yes, I had already uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics driver--it was the most up to date one.

How is you system running now? Any changes?

Are you still experiencing display issues after sleep?

Finally found the solution.

Although I went to the hp website for the latest graphics driver for my laptop, uninstalling and re-installing the latest graphics driver on the hp website did not work.

I finally went to the Intel website and downloaded the latest graphics driver they had listed which can be used with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and that did the trick.

So for all who stated it was the graphics driver, you were correct; but the hp website did not have the latest Intel graphics driver listed for my computer.

Yep I guess thats right Derek I suppose it is a bit difficult sometimes for new members to know exactly where to put it hey but no national emergency eh

Finally found the solution.

Although I went to the hp website for the latest graphics driver for my laptop, uninstalling and re-installing the latest graphics driver on the hp website did not work.

I finally went to the Intel website and downloaded the latest graphics driver they had listed which can be used with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and that did the trick.

So for all who stated it was the graphics driver, you were correct; but the hp website did not have the latest Intel graphics driver listed for my computer.

Mate back up all of your data in case this machine gives you problems again and then you can go a to a clean install using this and it will get rid of all the HP crapware too.
this is below and the second ref have a look it really is quite good at keeping the machine running at optimum. Just remember if you do fit a SSD no defrag and the rest you can pick what you like you don't have yo do all the tips

Thanks. I really don't know why hp did not have the latest Intel graphics driver on their website, but I took a chance and downloaded the one on Intel's website and that worked. What a relief!

The chip makers will always have the newest driver, if available.

So, always check there first.

It takes awhile for the System Builders to update their site with new drivers.

New Graphics Drivers, can change 4 times per year.

Yep as well as what ohn is saying I always download drivers when I get nw cards form the net as the disks they come wit are usually already dated
