Solved Script/Key/Shortcut Help Request

OK Gang -

I open a window (explorer, internet - whichever). I then maximize the window. A r-clik at the very top will produce a menu with 'maximize (unselectable because the machine knows the window is already max'd), minimize, restore and close. I want to press a key that will execute the 'restore' function (resizes window to original, pre-max size).

If you want to use a single key for this operation you'll need to look around for keyboard manipulation software. Other then that there's always keyboard shortcuts. There all over the net. here's few.

Win+Home: Clear all but the active window.
Win+Space: All windows become transparent so you can see through to the desktop.
Win+Up arrow: Maximize the active window.
Shift+Win+Up arrow: Maximize the active window vertically.
Win+Down arrow: Minimize the window/Restore the window if it's maximized.
Win+Left/Right arrows: Dock the window to each side of the monitor.
Shift+Win+Left/Right arrows: Move the window to the monitor on the left or right.

Just double click the title bar.

Edit: Or try [ALT+SPACE+ENTER] + [ENTER]

this will be my 'go-to' method until the requested key function comes along.

Okay I created an app using an AHK script.

Usage: Run the executable and make sure you click inside the active window that you want to resize.

Press [WINKEY+W] to resize or toggle window size.

To exit the program right click the icon in the system tray.

It's not signed so if you get prompts from security software you will need to allow it to run. The process name in task manager is resize.exe

If you like it and prefer a different hotkey assigned let me know but it should be a key that is not already assigned to another application.

oh yes, this is pure genius!

I have a gamer keyboard (image attached) with 16 programmable keys and would really like to assign this function to one of them. I am also attaching a pdf that will hopefully provide you with enough information (perhaps the chapter titled "Assigning commands to G-keys/buttons"?).

I think that it's a little beyond my capabilities but reading through that manual you should be able to assign G-keys to the [WINKEY+W] combination. Unfortunately you'd need to have resize.exe running in thebackground.

If you manage to assign that shortcut you could add a startup entry for resize.exe so that it launches on boot without a UAC prompt. Let us know if you need to do that.

But Lance1 did provided the answer in that very post! Look a few lines below and you'll find the appropriate shortcut. I'll quote it here:

Win+Down arrow: Minimize the window/Restore the window if it's maximized.

Windows key + down arrow minimized the active windows if it's in normal size, and restores to normal if it's maximized, that last bit is exactly what you requested for.
There is no need for third party crapware for this one.

sorry Alejandro85, but 'minimize' was not requested in the OP. Callender's solution 'toggles' the window size, it's perfect and NOT crapware.
