Hi Brink, I know this is an old threat but since you really seem to be an expert in this field, I am still replying to it. I need to make a script (for windows 7/8) to activate the "file History" (windows 8) and "backup & Restore" (Windows 7). I know all the parameters in advance. the idea would be to run the script on all the computers to activate the backup. unfortunaltely I was not able to even find the command (cli) that handles this or how to do it with a VBS... P.S. the computers are not on a AD :-( I really hope you can help me with this. thanks for all, Steven

Hello Steven, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure about File History in Windows 8/8.1 yet, but if you like, the shortcut below can make using it a bit easier.
For Windows Backup in Windows 7, you could use the shortcuts below to create a new or incremental backup on demand. If you like, you can edit the .vbs files to help with your script.

Hope this helps for now, :)

@Brink thanks for the links. I think it is a starting point, but I can't figure out how to use the shortcut example to send parameters to create the backups with the good settings @HarriePateman with a big pleasure as I am a little stuck with this situation. thanks a lot Steven

The shortcuts use what you already had setup for Windows Backup, and basically just performs the "Back up now" function.

You might see if using the wbadmin command may work for using it with parameters.

Wbadmin start backup
