About ten days ago I began having trouble with the scroll wheel on my mouse. I'd scroll down, it would pop right back up to where I started. If I scrolled extra far it might pop up only partway to where I began. Maybe one time in ten it will actually do what it is told.
It did this across all applications: Browsers, Word, Explorer windows, you name it.
So I went out and bought a new mouse and installed the latest drivers. This did not solve the problem. I got out an old mouse which I has used for quite some time without incident and got the same thing.
What I have done:
1) Scanned the registry for old mouse software and cleaned it if necessary
2) Made sure that all old mouse software was gone. (There wasn't any; I am meticulous about cleaning out old crap.)
3) Run SFC - no integrity violations found
4) Removed all mouse-related devices from Device Manager and let Windows find them again
5) Removed and uninstalled a Logitech G-13 game controller which had a mouse emulator built in
6) Changed every daggone setting possible in both Control Panel's mouse settings and the Logitech settings program. (My new mouse is an M720)
7) Yanked out a bunch of my hair and kicked my dog. (Not really, but it's been close.)
I'm considering reinstalling Windows but hate to have to re-do so many things I have customized over a silly scroll wheel.
Any ideas would be very welcome. I would thank you and my dog could rest easy again.
