My son dropped a book on his Samsung Np355V5C at uni the other week and cracked his screen. So now he is home for easter I've changed the screen but he has killed the hard disk at the same time though I am able to recover his docs using easeus recovery program.
I have gone and got him a new 1TB western Digital Hard drive today and fitted it but had the following problems when i tried to install Windows 7 Pro
I read through your clean install guide and reset the BIOS to defaults but when i then change the boot proirty to cd i get a red label saying
Secure Boot Violation
Invalid Signature detected. Check secure Boot Policy in Setup
OK
After restoring to defaults the boot order looks like this
Thanks for that, it worked to a point. I disabled secure boot and select UEFI mode. The cd started to load, it said it was loading windows setup files, then the windows logo briefly came on the screen but then turned to a black screen with a movable mouse cursor and nothing happened. I tried pressing "shift & F10" as described in http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...-only-mouse-cursor-windows-7-instalation.html but nothing happened. Please can someone give me further help to get this laptop up and running.
Cheers

I've got to to be honest, I don't understand why i would want to fit a small SSD to his laptop when it only has one bay for a hard disk, and I couldn't afford a 1TB one anyway

Hi and welcome to SevenForums
Yep a 1tb ssd would leave a dent in the pocket book plus the other fixes
No telling what other damage has been done to other hardware either.
You might try disabling fast startup
If you see anything about CSM in advanced it would need to be enabled.

So guys, I made the rufus usb installation drive but couldn't get it to work. I've tried all different options but it never appears in the boot menu. I have a very simalar laptop a samsung np355v5c-A06UK whereas my sons is just a np355v5c.
Maybe I'm being a bit thick here but could i install my hard drive into his machine to see if it would run or would it make changes to my drive and knacker it?
I found an old linux boot cd with testdisk and gparted on it. Although they both could see the new hard disk neither could perform any tests on it so my own conclusion is there is damage to the motherboard which is stopping all the usb ports and hard disk working properly.
So if anyone has any ideas how to find out what else he could have fried when he dropped a book on his screen I'd be very grateful

Hi,
I believe you could start the install on another machine and when it restarts for the first time just power off with holding down the power button on the case.
Then install the hdd in the other machine and power up
The installer should continue
AddRam came up with that little trick might be worth a try what is there to loose ?
There are a few chips that may have become dislodged
The cpu is most likely welded to the mobo not to mention it has a clamp to hold the heat sink on so I doubt anything moved it.

Exactly. I refuse to repair anyone's laptop for them anymore if they're not using an SSD in it for their o/s . There's no excuse for this anymore. SSD's are cheap and external storage drives are even cheaper. 240 Gb is more than enough to get by with a laptop and at 50 cents a Gb with SSDs there are no more excuses.
(Then again, a 1TB SSD would be a sweet thang.) Just sayin'

No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.
The costs of a 1tb ssd is about 350.us
A 1tb hdd is about 60.us.

Ok so I'm a tight bastard, but then again so are all Yorkshiremen, we are almost as tight as the Scots. I will try the trick of part install in my machine and then move it to his, is there nothing like an advanced Belarc advisor that would say for definate what is and isn't working?

To be fair, clunk drives are as economical as they are expendable. Killing one would not bother me nearly as much as killing a 1 TB SSD no matter how many books I dropped on it.

Ok, sorry guys the laptop had to go on the back burner but I'm off for a week, and this morning took his new 1TB drive and put it in my (fully working) Samsung np355-v5c A06uk the A06uk being the only difference to my sons laptop. When I tried installing Windows 7 I disabled secure boot and it said loading windows setup files then starting windows then a black screen with a white cursor and nothing else happened.
So does anyone have an idea why I can't install windows 7. I even made a rufus flash drive with win 7 installed, it just comes up asking to insert proper media and press a key. Any ideas???

Ok so after a bit of youtube I got a little further with Rufus, I have to disable fast bios in the advanced section of bios to be able to boot from usb. So with that and secure boot disabled and legacy and Uefi enabled I got to the same stage as with a DVD.
Windows starts to load set up files, then the windows logo comes on screen for about 20 seconds then it goes to a black screen with a white cursor and then nothing happens. I've left it for 5 mins with nothing happening. Please bear in mind this is on both laptops mine and his and mine works great with my "Clunk drive" in it. So please can someone tell me where I'm going wrong, is this a samsung thing or just a Yorkshireman doing something daft???
